What happens when you plug a Chinese amp the size of Atlas Shrugged into a 400-watt cabinet?

I needed a little amp to test cabinets with so I don’t blow up a tube amp. So I bought one of these cute little Joyo amps and hooked it up to my Mesa recto cab with EVM 12L speakers. I expected it to be a piece of shit but it’s actually a great amp! It nails the sound of a rectifier, albeit with only one tone knob and fewer switches. Like the big ones it has so much gain on tap that the knob doesn’t need to be turned past noon. The clean channel stays pretty clean but it becomes superbly touch sensitive as the gain knob turns clockwise. I cannot believe the dynamics that come from of a $189 amp. And it handles pedals like a dream—put a muff in front of it and it turns into a nineties desert rock machine. It’s also uncomfortably loud. I turned it up to noon and stopped there. I might crank with with the decibel meter tomorrow. Joyo is really giving the big names a run for their money with this one. It’s a different universe from the halfassed tones that come from most little hybrid amps. When the big amp arrives to take over this cab I’ll probably get another cab to play with this little thing (and maybe some of the other Bantamp series).

Congrats on the Joyo banTamp. :thu:

Be skeptical of Hotone nano amps. Remember, @Dew Knot Humps bought Freeze B and said it sucked.

I’ve been happy with the Joyo pedals I’ve bought in the past. I bought a Joyo US Dream out of curiosity. I wanted to see how close it would sound to my Suhr Riot. The $35 US D got in the ballpark of the $200 Riot. The Sweet Baby sounds nearly identical to my Mad Professor Sweet Honey OD for a fraction of the cost. I bought a British Sound and an AC Tone. I like both. Then, I got an Ultimate Drive (Fulltone OCD clone) which I dislike, too harsh. Last, I got a Joyo 6 band EQ which I like. While these Joyo pedals are not built to the high standards of my boutique stomp boxes, they are decent for cheap.
