Question: What doubleneck would you buy if...?

Well of course I'd have unlimited funds because that is what it would take to get me to play in a Led Zeppelin/Rush/Eagles/Mahavishnu Orchestra/Yes/Triumph - tribute band

Seriously though, I couldn't play one. My back wouldn't be able to take it, I'd end up with one of those stands that hold the extra guitar.

My desire for any double neck guitar hovers between getting kicked in the nuts and an IRS audit.

I'd do what Lifeson did. 12 string acoustic on a stand and 6 string electric around my neck.
I think his acoustic was 6 but whatever. Easy set up.

You said "unlimited funds", so I'd get Basslab to build me one that weighs like a whopping 5.5 pounds or so.

Weird photo. Is it just me, or does Townsend looks more like Peter Cushing than his usual self?

Indeed. That is a weird photo and Pete seems to be wearing a shitload of makeup for the photo shoot. There’s a better shot of him with the double neck in the album art or some other promo shot, but I couldn’t find it with lazy googling.

At my age I wouldn't even consider a double neck other than the Ovation that @tiger roach posted. In my younger days I would have gone for the Gibson Double Neck because I did play in a Rush Tribute.

At one time during my Tom Petty Tribute, I almost considered getting a Danelectro

It does look like he's wearing a shitload of makeup. Weird tan color, eyes look strange, and if you look at the sides of his nose they've shaded them, and then the centreline has been highlighted (I think?).

Add the smile and that super affectionate hug he is giving the doubleneck, it all looks weird.

Here's something to consider if you go with a Gibson/Epi double-neck: there are only 20 frets. And, on the 6-string neck, it's really hard to get all the way up there.
