What do you use to lube your nut?

Seriously. I've got to find a new tech to take my new Strat to so he can take a look at the nut. It is pinching the strings pretty bad. I'll bend, it goes out of tune and I can hear it pop at the nut when I tune it back up. I do plan on using the vibrato on this one, so I'll probably need something to make slick.

graphite and lemon oil. Also chapstick works. Sounds like the slots aren’t wide enough though.

They aren't. My old tech did a great job. When he didn't get back to me back in April (because he died), I tired a different guy, with this neck and he didn't do a good job, so I am searching for another one. Any chance you want to move to the DC area? You know, I haven't had the Jag o sonic setup since you first brought it Pragestock and it still plays great. I think it's been 4 years?

I got a recipe for homemade nutsauce off the Internet several yrs ago and mixed some up. It lasts forever.
It has Vaseline, a bit of lighter fluid, and one other ingredient I forget.

I don't think I've ever lubed a nut, or felt a need.. am I doing something wrong?

I only use it on an Explorer I have with a B5, due to the extreme string angles. My Gretschs and Strat have decently cut nuts and don’t require lube. For non vibrato applications pencil lead is fine if you have a problem.

I just widen my slots with a knife or fingernail file and never had a problem.

You need a careful hand though.

On an F type you're only out a couple of bucks for a new nut if you screw up.

I've always just replaced or re-cut the nut, but I'm guessing this is a "in the meantime" solution? Pencil.
