What do Weiners think of the Dragonfire active single-coils?

a good kind of terrible
Yeah, I know, they're East Asian knockoffs of EMGs, but do they do the job well? I'm looking for something a little different out of my Strat than the Wilkinson high-output single-coils that are currently in it; since I'm doing a ton of computer recording these days I figured I might want to look into active pickups. I keep my compressor on pretty much all the time, and I'm mostly making synth-heavy bedroom pop these days anyway, so I can't say I care much about "sterility." Are they worth it for $70, or should I save my pennies and get a real set of EMGs?

I thought about taking this to HCEG but that's not exactly a sober-minded environment when discussing budget versions of expensive gear.

Yeah... I don't know how subjective folks can be. At least it's not TGP though. The reality is that you won't really know until you try them....

Honestly, I think you are more likely to find someone at HC that has actually tried them. You might want to put something about that in your original post. Like "If you haven't actually tried these then STFU."

That should limit responses to people that have actually played them, people pretending to have actually played them, people who read about them in magazines, and people who have exceptionally strong opinions about them based on artist endorsements/image. Oh, and a couple of people who think Chinese intellectual property issues are critical, a few who feel bad for the exploited Chinese workers, and three guys who think EMGs suck.

I have some Dragonfire P90s in a Strat, and they sound great. I've heard some great guitar sounds come from inexpensive pickups. Buy a set and put them in. Tell everyone they're Lindy Fralins. They won't know any better.
