Myself had a Mongoose 1980-82, can't remember exactly. It was the hefty one with the motomag wheels. Got it for Christmas and my bro got one the same year, matching bikes pretty much. I remember wanting a Redline but they were super expensive and also a GT and I a Hutch. My best friend had a Diamondback ...it was kinda like Ford v Chevy I remember.

I know I still have the owners manual and documentation (here at my house) and I have a few other pics somewhere. I don't think the bike exists at my Dad's anymore though, pretty sure he asked me ages ago if he could give it away as he had a friend whose grandson wanted a BMX.
Anyway here are two pics I found that were in a photo album (the others are burried in a box I'm sure.

Here's me about 12 so 1982 with my bike post moto mags. I think the mag wheels existed on it for about 9 or 10 months and then I remember getting some blue alunimun wheels (Aria I think, they mighta been anodized but not sure) most likely for my birthday which was in September. The bike was always being modified. At the very end I de-badged it. Looking back I was probably trying to get a streamlined Redline look :embarrassed:

Here it is leaning against my awesome bedsheet. I think the grips on this one were A Me's which had a rubber grip with the AME design but with a soft foam overlay over them. I had a number plate at one time and of course the gooseneck pad and handlebar pad.

So what bike did you have?

I have no idea. I can tell you my first real skateboard was a Santa Cruz Jeff Kendall with Tracker trucks and Slime Ball wheels.

Mine was a bad Sears copy of a Schwinn Stingray. This was pre-BMX. But we also jumped ramps with that bike. I used to ride for blocks doing a wheelie and navigating by subtle body movements. It's a wonder that I'm still alive.

Pretty much this. Although we replaced the sting ray handle bars with motocross bars and the banana seat with a solo seat from a road bike.

None and many. BMX was after my time. I was the baby of the family so my bikes were all spare parts leftover from big brother's, big sister's bikes.

I had a Huffy that my dad probably bought a Kmart. I got it in first grade and probably rode it until I was in middle school. I was too young and clueless to know that it sucked.

Mine was a Santa Cruz as well, no idea what the trucks or wheels were. Later I bought a JFA ( the Phoenix punk band Jodie fosters army) deck, no idea who made it probably some local Phoenix shop or something.
I’m almost positive I still have those at my folks house.

I know who JFA is. I always wanted that board but none of the local shops ever had it. And trying to mail order it back then would have been crazy. I would have needed a check or a money order, then mail the order form, what a nightmare the world used to be.

Pre- bmx we used what we had.
I dad a Kent bike that I rode until I checked the frame.
Then a Ross Apollo.
After that it was dirt bikes for me. Ended up with a YZ 250.

I had a cool purple Sears special “spider” bike. Banana seat, and a strangely high gear ratio so it was hard to get going, but gave me great top-speed abilities.
My first bike was a Sears BMX thing, probably 1978 and it had a seat similar to the Mongooz minibike above and the Machinegunner seat....big old fat/long/chunky seat . I think it must've weighed 45 lbs or something.
