Question: What are you practicing?

The boy is starting to get a bit more under control after two months of this shit, so I'm finding a little more time for music. Working on singing, again, but also starting back with the songs we were playing/leaning for our little band project (Killing the Blues, Killer Parties...sensing a theme...Creep, Dry the Rain, Oh My Sweet Carolina, and so on).

Also helping him and the GF practice for their lessons with Mark. :) Thanks to @Mark Wein I may never be able to listen to Brown Eyed Girl again.

that’s ok. This week I threw an Eagles song into your house like a TGP song grenade.

I’m working on Tony Rice’s solo on “You Love is Like a Flower”

Half speed, of course.

Now that school is over (I turn in my grades on Tuesday) I going to get back to work. I’d like to learn 10 bluegrass tunes and another 10 jazz standards by the end of the summer.

I hate the A7 chord. This shape. Right here.

Can't easily get into or out of it.

Huh. I use it all the time. You could try using your thumb for the root, too.
Thumb is fine for electric, but my acoustic has a much bigger neck and I don't always grab it right. And apparently, Selmer type guitars have even bigger necks. Training my hand to fret it properly with my first finger on the root works on every guitar. It's just slow.

That is going to be fun working up to full speed. Cool solo.

Got a Klon clone pedal, shhhhh, I'm all over the place with it. Jamming John Mayer's Gravity from the John Mayer Trio cd. Love the bends on that. OMG>

Play the two central voices only and you will get a stripped down A7. Move the upper of the two central voices to the right and you will get A susp.
I use that shape sometimes, but more often I just leave out that second string. It's a lot easier to get to whatever's next without it.

I'm still working on this, in between bouts of summer tendonitis, and found a workaround on one of Sven Jungbeck's videos. Forget the second string and play the C# on the 4th fret, 5th string instead. Instead of 1-7-3-5 you get 1-3-7-3. It's much easier.
