That would work well, but we don't do any covers in the strict sense.
We do two quasi-covers. One is based on "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling," or at least on the chorus (which is the only part that anyone ever remembers). Since it is now public domain (although most people assume it is a traditional Irish song, it's actually an early show tune, but the copyright has run out), we do one chorus as intro with the original lyric, semi-acoustic with no drums, then a quick 4-count and double up the tempo and do 2 more choruses with alternate lyrics (referencing The Troubles) interspersed with solos, with the full band and overdriven guitars.
The other quasi-cover we do is further afield. It's based on "Carrie Anne" by the Hollies. It's almost unrecognizable to the original, especially the verses, which border on hardcore. It's called "Kellyanne," a reference to a certain Ms. Conway. Stridently political lyrics.
