I’ve been doing some work on the 3 seasons/auxiliary kitchen room in my house this week. I blew through the following cds yesterday:
Shakin’ Fit: Various Movers & Shakers
The Derailers: Genuine
Dick Dale: Unknown Territory
Best of BB King: 1950s Flair records
Merle Haggard: If I Could Only Fly
Imogen Heap: Speak For Yourself
Handsome Boy Modeling School: s/t
Scatterbrain: Here Comes Trouble
Willie Nelson: Teatro
The Holmes Brothers: Promised Land
I can’t help but wishing that this was a fair bit faster. As is, it kinda just makes me want to listen to The Replacements. It’s been too long, come to think of it. Hmm.
You know, I hadn't thought of a Replacements connection (I'd probably have pegged it closer to Violent Femmes), but I can hear it now. I've just tried playing it at 1.25 speed, and that's too fast for me. But I think you're onto something with the faster speed. Like, just a little bit faster. Now I want to look for live versions, I bet they played it faster.
Someone was talking about Big Thief on reddit, and they said something along the lines of 'I know Buck Meeks is a good really guitarist because I've listened to his solo stuff, but in Big Thief he just sounds like he's playing all the wrong notes, all the time'. and I love that with all my heart.
