What are in your opinion, your thoughts, your beliefs the best three-album runs ever?

:old:

Don't think I've ever seen one :embarrassed:

But I do remember some stores having the long plastic security sleeves on em.

Depeche Mode - Some Great Reward, Black Celebration, Music for the Masses. That was an epic run. Toss Violator onto the end, and it's a fearsome foursome. Songs of Faith and Devotion rounds out a solid quintet of quality.

I'd say Metallica had a pretty good run up to the Black Album...

GnR did pretty good with Appetite and UYI 1&2 if you want to count that later as separate.

U2- Boy, October, War.

The Fixx - Shuttered Room, Reach the Beach, Phantoms.

Duran Duran - Self Titled, Rio, Seven and the Ragged Tiger.

The first three A Flock of Seagulls records were fucking fantastic - Self Titled, Listen, The Story of a Young Heart.

Elton John could have multiple contenders here. Put Goodbye Yellowbrick Road anywhere in the chain you want to and you can't go wrong.

So you think Pearl Jam has one good album and you want to put a Flock of Seagulls on a list with 3 great albums in a row?

I'll bet the ranch you haven't listened to those AFOS records. People mock what they don't understand.

Where is the deed to the ranch, I am ready to move in. An old coworker loved all of the 80s new wave stuff and had more music than probably Spotify.

In 1996 (one calendar year), the Brian Jonestown Massacre wrote, recorded and released:

Their Satanic Majesty's Second Request
Take It From the Man!
Thank God For Mental Illness

Those are towering achievements of songwriting.

Hearing and listening are not the same thing.

Opeth - Still Life -> Blackwater Park -> Deliverance

Scorpions - Lovedrive -> Animal Magnetism -> Blackout -> Love At First Sting

Queensryche - The Warning -> Rage For Order -> Operation: Mindcrime

Iced Earth -> Night Of The Stormrider -> Burnt Offerings -> The Dark Saga

Kansas - Masque -> Leftoverture -> Point Of Know Return

Amorphis - Skyforger -> The Beginning Of Times -> Circle -> Under The Red Cloud

Fates Warning - Perfect Symmetry -> Parallels -> Inside Out

Symphony X - V -> The Odyssey -> Paradise Lost

Sonata Arctica - Ecliptica -> Silence -> Winterheart's Guild -> Reckoning Night

Kamelot - Karma -> Epica -> The Black Halo

Extreme - Extreme -> Pornograffitti -> III Sides To Every Story

Dio - Holy Diver -> Last In Line -> Sacred Heart
Extreme's III sides cd didn't do it for me. I liked some of the material but the album as a whole wasn't IMO nearly as good as the first 2. Plus Nuno's tone on the first 2 albums was godlike and not so much on the latter.

More Songs About Buildings and Food -> Fear of Music -> Remain in Light -> The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads

Richard Wager: Götterdämmerung, Sigfried, Die Walküre, Das Rheingold
Technically that’s 14–16 albums depending on pacing and how the tracks are split up, but still an impressive run.

Also:
Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Master of Reality.
Parade, Sign o’ the Times, Lovesexy (Hard to believe that was his best run, but Prince was an uneven writer)

Those weren't written consecutively. He took a very long break halfway through the cycle. But that 'break' included Tristan und Isolde so, I mean, feel free to extend/deepen your list.
