Supposedly it’s so you can lean the thing up against an amp and it won’t fall over as easily. I tried it and it didn’t really seem all that much more stable, so there you go.

Neither strap button is centered on the bottom, I think that would annoy me!

I see what you mean with the guitar at a funky angle but, even if the two weren't centered, you would only have to move one for the two to be centered. I think he is saying neither is in the exact center of the guitar. Because, afraid that will throw off the strap/position of the guitar/the angle that the guitar hangs on you?

Ahh what I meant was that when using a strap button it seems odd to me that one is towards the top of the body and one is towards the bottom. Using the top one is ok, just adjust your strap I guess but would anyone use the bottom one? Seems like the guitar would flop back and forth.
Maybe you're not supposed to use the bottom one and it's just there to stabilize things when you set it down.

Then the bottom one shouldn't be a strap button. Maybe a rubber foot from an amp or something?

I took it to my friend Joe‘s house tonight, he has a really early one from back when they were essentially still a parts company that would build you what you wanted. A very early PT, it even still had the fender shaped headstock!
