It feels great in terms of playability. It is 9.5 lbs on the digital scale - not horrible for an LP but a little heftier than I'd like. But it really has great sustain and the action is set up perfect. So I can use a padded strap with it and hopefully the weight won't be too much of an issue.
It's in very very clean shape. The finish looks great, I love the burst and the non-flamed top. The fretboard is a really dark brown, like dark chocolate, and I like that too.
I'm still at a bit of a loss as to what model this is. It is indeed a 2016 as evidenced by the back of the headstock stamp. On the inside of the bridge pickup cavity it says LPTDP16 which I think means Les Paul Traditional - Desert (Sunburst) Plaintop 2016. Searching on it brings up the American Musical Supply page for the guitar so maybe it was a one-off custom color for AMS. The other weird thing is that it was never drilled for a pickguard, and the pickup rings have slits in them where one of those bracketless LP guards from a few years ago would snap in. The pickups are also 490R/498T - but the 2016s would have had 57 Classics. It sounds great so I guess it doesn't matter, but it seems to be a fairly unique LP. Either that or it's a fake, but I don't think it is... I asked the guy if the pickups had been swapped and he said he didn't know, so no help there. They sound really good though so I guess it doesn't matter.
The problem is I am feeling mighty depressed these days and I can't tell if I'm happy with the guitar or not, because I'm in one of those moods where I'm just not happy with anything. I think I am happy with it as it is definitely a good Les Paul, which is what I wanted. But everything feels so blah that I can't really tell...

Cool guitar. No pickguard is the only way I would own an LP if I was even remotely interested in an LP.

Sorry to hear that you're in a funk Charles. I've been there many times, so I understand. Do what feel right. If selling that guitar to me for $400 sounds right, then do that. You do you man.

I'm feeling better now that the work day is over. Playing it some more and starting to warm up to it. This is a good LP.
