Help! Well and this is a strange one but for a few months I have had a nagging idea about getting a tattoo

Got my first ink done. Pretty traditional symbol, I know, but it means something to me, and I went with a more tribal, pagan, Norse and Celt look rather than the more recent catholic co-opted versions, though I did leave the circle in. I like it. Just black this time. There's going to be a similar, slightly theme related one on my other shoulder that will balance with this one.

Matt Crow, vet with PTSD issues, good friend, his career was being one of those guys that jumped out of Coastie copters like when Goose was down in that old propaganda movie. Mountain biking buddy too.

I no longer want a tattoo (not because of SVL’s it looks sweet - just updating my change in thinking since I started the thread)

I too am a rebel/not getting a tattoo.
This gets into my thoughts as a young man finishing high school regarding being a nonconformist. I at the time was a kid who dressed fairly conventionally given my demographic, but I liked to wear things I liked. But I also didn't want to be viewed as a conformist and liked nonconformity. Nonconformity was a discussion in my Jesuit school, related to literature classes that we had there.

My thought was that if one is doing something to fit in, it is conformity. If one is not doing something because others do, it is in reaction to others, so in a way they are controlling your choice. So to me, the only true nonconformity was to check in with yourself and do what you truly wanted to do because you wanted to. Setting aside, as best as one can, the opinions of others.

Same here with this decision.

TLDR, just do what you want.

Did I mention also that I may overthink things sometimes?

When I got my tattoo at 18, the piercer came in to yell at the tattooist (with whom he was in a relationship, I think) about misplacing some tool. After he left, she muttered, "sounds like someone got his a$$hole pierced". That may be the last thing I remember, after senescence has stolen my more important memories.

It just seems that tattoos are a lot more common now compared to the 70s. 2 of my 3 kids have them. It's like everybody is getting them now. ...and don't think for a second think I am saying you or, any one else is following the herd. I think it's pretty great that now people can "just do what they want" and that's the reason they are so much more prevalent. I'm definitely never getting one but, it's less being a rebel well, it's pretty much all being a woosey.

Same. I have a thing about needles. I don’t do them.

I'd soo much rather not get a shot. More than anything, I just don't want to see the needle. I do fine if I just look the other way. But, OMG the pandemic was horrible. I had to stop watching the news. You know how, when there are atrocities somewhere and at the start of the story they say, some images may disturb some viewers? Every story, they had to show their stock footage, without warning, of people getting jabbed.

I haven't considered getting tattoo. At 58, I would look like I was jumping on the bandwagon, trying to look hip for my friends' grandkids.

I don't think there is an age limit if it's something meaningful to the person. Honoring a lost loved one for example.
