In the 1970's ? I mean both artists constantly changed and reinvented themselves and their sound. both were incredible stage performers/frontmen. We all know Bowie and he has always received proper dues and I suspect Alice did in the 70's/ 80's but on a much smaller scale. Obviously Bowie was more in the "social Circles" but Alice also had his circle with the likes of Miss Piggy, Col. Sanders, Salvador Dali, etc Both even photo opped (and most likely snorted cocaine) with Iggy Pop

Anyway I'm here to make the case that take away the actual music style (because both made incredible music) that Alice Bowie and David Cooper are really the same person

Probably Bowie did the androgynous thing better or should i say he wore it better munch0

Pretty cool "real doll" here

lulz. Expected cheap accusation of elitism instead of actual examination of reality.

Still, great shitpost.

Examin the reality that in my OP I stated despite the musical style both made incredible music.

You stated that Bowie was tremendously talented and infered that Cooper was not (by singling out Bowie) You also said Bowie was "artisically significant" , again infering that Cooper was not which would be false if you looked at his influence and time warped back to the 1970's. So That's reality but feel free to choose your own version of reality even if it involves rose colored glasses.

Similar in the way that a Big Mac is similar to a Beef Wellington.

You are what you eat. :)

Big Macs are tasty. Wellington...wtf is that anyway. Both beef, the Wellington would require one to have a cork sniffer nose whereas any average joe (that would include most of us) could enjoy a Big Mac.

I’m actually on the Alice Cooper chapter in Reynolds’ big ass glam rock book.

I’d say that they’re both artists who did theatrical rock stuff and used shock as an element in their presentation. Bowie clearly had more in the creative tank. But the material on the Alice Cooper’s Greatest Hits comp is solid.

They’re both artists that at one point were part of a common pool of arty outsider rockers along with the Doors and the Stooges and the Velvets and even *ugh* Zappa. Folks who took the lessons of the Stones and the Who and whatnot in a more outrageous direction vs. just plain old hard rocking.

Similar yet very different. Probably because Bowie had highbrow aspirations and Alice was doing Grand Guginol by way of drive in movies.

I agree with this and once again Peen Simmons IS the voice of reason :)

I myself love both and that AC first incarnation of the band was flat out kick ass....check out the last couple (last half) of this video from the Toronto music festival 1969 ....just kick ass stuff and that band rocked hard. Also Alice holding an 8mm camera onstage...in 1969 !!! This is from a Cooper doc called Super Duper Alice Cooper which i plan to watch.

I like them both. Yea, Bowie wins when comparing, but AC put out some solid rock tunes out in the 70s.

Also, Flush the Fashion is one my favorite under-appreciated AC albums.....

Bowie meant it. Cooper acted like he did.

Different .

(fan of both, fwiw. at least, fan of Cooper through BBB, after that - meh.
