was a fishnet t-shirt common activewear in the mid-70s?

I can tell you that they were popular in 1982...the fishnet half shirt. Actually not sure if they were popular but they were around enough that yours truly had one although mine had regular polyester on the top shoulders.

You hate to think about it, folks. I do remember that being a thing now.

I bet that guy was carying a lot of bacteria....probably infected every dog that chased him :frown:

Nonsense post.

Back in the early 80s I definitely wore those, but I actually had some guns to show off, unlike the girly-man in that pic...

He was only 18 years old!

I don't know about fishnet shirts, but in 1984 I saw Van Halen at Cobo Hall in Detroit, and the tunnel from the parking garage to Cobo Hall was lined with ladies of the evening, and many, many of them were wearing fishnet stockings.

My guess is that at least some of them were cops, too...

I had one for backpacking, it was worn under other layers though, not as a fashion statement.

Plus the sleeves on mine were regular fabric, because backpack straps would cause the fishnet to dig into your shoulders.

I'm trying to imagine the point of wearing such an undergarment while hiking. The new undershirts wick away moisture from you skin which can help avoid hypothermia. Fishnet is just a few threads resting on your skin. Did it help in anyway that you perceived?

You are correct - mine also had shoulders and sleeves of regular fabric. All black, of course, as most of my wardrobe was at that time. This was Idaho Falls in the early 80s, so I was perceived as a creature from another (non-lily-white) planet...

It traps air for insulation.

Maybe not so well, since you don't see them for sale at REI these days that I'm aware of.

Those were a thing. Wasn't for me, but it was a thing.

It's nice that he stopped off and visited Judd Hirsch and family.

Guilty!!!

And I shopped almost exclusively at Chess King for 8th and 9th grade. Might as well put that out there now. Girls dug it though [shrug].
