Using a Telecaster for Doom/Stoner rock = fail!

I used to play that sort of stuff on my Tele, frikking loved it. Twangy bridge pickup + big muff + matamp = amazing.

Also, for this sort of music having a badass bass player is the key anyway.
yeah, this. a trebly, twangy single coil bridge pickup actually goes really well with bass-heavy fuzzes and bass-heavy loose low end amps. it counterbalances and counteracts all that fuzzy thick low end so that you can still have some definition and dynamics.

(p90s in an SG are great for the same reason)

A John 5 Tele might get you there.
Or a Jim Root Tele.

I didn't hate the music or even dislike, which I assumed I would (sorry Bird :thu:). But I had no problem with the sound or aesthetic of the guitarist using a Tele. It's also just a video, so it doesn't mean it's what he used in the studio. He's definitely playing Tele-shaped stuff live in the clip I listened to 37 seconds of (and in the images from other live clips on Utoob).

Sleewell's right though...the tools don't matter, just the music they create.
