TRhe rise of unmarked copper cars

I had a car following my UPS truck not long ago. He was staying a discreet distance but i could tell i was being followed. I called 911 and reported it,saying i was afraid he was either stealing deliveries or looking fora chance to rob/hijack me.
About 30 seconds later he came roaring up behind me with his lights flashing. he WAS following me but only because there were police reports of people's packages being stolen after delivery and he was hoping to catch someone stealing

I hate the bastards that buy a retired cruiser at auction and then keep it as close to the on-duty look as possible.

The Crown Vic is a dying breed. The state and the county still have a few and the city has one. Around here we watch for Explorers or Tauruses in the rearview. The city does have a white F-150 that's unmarked and a black Explorer. In the Dells they have a white Corolla. That one surprised me.

Certainly nothing new around here. I see them every day. I suspect it may be a case of having inadvertently noticed a couple, the OP is now more aware of them and hence notices them even more.

In Idaho, there was a new law being proposed to allow the state patrol to use unmarked cars. Currently, Idaho law prohibits this. Not so for other law enforcement agencies. I guess I don't mind allowing it, but get irked at the excuse they use for the law. they say they need it to catch "distracted" drivers that are using electronics, etc. Idaho does not have a law banning texting. There is some public sentiment to outlaw that, but the state has not decided to take that "freedom" away from the people. So the cops are using it to garner support for unmarked cars, which of course they will use for all purposes, not just to get texting distracted people. Again, not necessarily a bad thing, but I dislike the disingenuous reasoning.

I see cops driving while talking on the phone and or texting all the time. I guess that they are specially trained to mitigate those types of distractions.

Right.

I always honk at those motherfuckers and pass along my sentiments quite vocally when I see that shit. It is infuriating. So far, every single time resulted in them putting the phone down and going about their way with little or no acknowledgement.

Fuckers.

you do that here in the midwest and you'd be a permanent resident of the local jail. (if you lived that long)

Where I work, we have 107 sworn officers. EACH ONE has their own vehicle- they get to drive them home when they're off shift.

All the ranking officers and detectives insist on Tahoes (about twice as much money when equipped); and the patrol officers, as they gain seniority, manage to weasel themselves into Tahoes as often as not. It's a macho thing.

We always ran Crown Vics as patrol cars; a few years ago, one of our cops had a brother who was a cop in a different state... he was in a Crown Vic, got hit hard from behind, and the car blew up. (Which will happen, when you get hit hard from behind).

The cops all got together and leaned on the Chief, City Manager, and City Council, and got them to sell off all of those Fords. Replaced them with Chevy Caprices, which aren't nearly as good...

I like testing undercover vehicles when they pull me over. I usually dart for my glove box once they've gotten out of their car and are close to the rear corner of my car. Scares the crap out of them almost every time and almost always gets me out of a ticket, because why would you pull your gun out on someone that wants to provide there license, insurance, and registration?
