This really ticked me off.

I don't have problem with the person, we were asked for an opinion. When I looked at the site, I formed one and I shared it.

I have an issue with the way it is presented. I literally see this stuff all of the time. Usually, it is far less condescending in tone.

Usually, the credentials are a little more legitimate than those listed.

I appreciate all sides of the debate here. I hope my comments weren't seen as personal attacks. I certainly attacked the ideal and the credibility of it though, which goes back to the beginning of this post.

He might be a great guy in real life. My Nashville friends haven't heard of him...

Mark that was incredibly well stated (as a whole, not just the tidbit I quoted. It is with this spirit that I made this comment:

"I don't think Wade means to suck, but this approach to "art" certainly does."

I realize that this is accepted practice and is fine for a ton of folks that have had a ton of success and made a ton of money int he music business. So it's not Wade that the real issue, but the industry's decided path to maintaining some level of profit in their outdated and outmoded business model.

When folks like Nickel Creek become more creative and grow and sell successively less albums with each release or people like yourself are releasing independent music that is far superior to most "major" blues releases there is a just such a clear and huge problem.

Even artists that were originally signed as bubble gum pop were once allowed to grow, the Beatles being the ultimate example. Of course they had the chops to really sing and play and most importantly WRITE. But they were also allowed to do all those things. What's worse is the lack of interest in music of executives that don't even want to find new artists doing new things or even artists that are doing "old" or "regular" things really well. Very few people are Stevie Wonder, in fact no one has touched him to date as far as being a gifted and creative teen that become a unique yet extremely popular force of nature.

Maybe given another four or five years OUT of the spotlight Taylor may have evolved into a really good singer and found a strong voice as a songwriter, but she's all but guaranteed to have neither as she's being given everything she needs to feed/maintain the machine that is built around her success.

But I digress as I don't mean to harp on the girl. It's just that her ridiculous level of success confounds me, given her level of "talent". Similarly no animosity is meant towards Wade. I won't even remember him in a week. I just an idealized of art for art's sake and wanting the best of the best to be able to share their art with us. And that would take countless forms and skill levels...none really better than the other, just "real". It's the only thing that I really appreciate about pro sports...it is among the few fields were the best of best are the ones that are rewarded the most...them and all the crazy roided out cheating pieces of shit that could likely find jobs in the corporate side of the music industry.

Shite...sorry for another diatribe. Night all.
 
I don't begrudge anyone making a living.

I mean, yeah. For those who are passionate about music, it's hard to watch when some of your favourites are struggling under the weight of commerce, the mainstream, factories, etc.

But somewhere out there on the internet, there's probably a screenwriting forum where writers bitch about our movie threads. "Best lines of dialogue? Pages and pages of quotes from 80s teenage comedies and action flicks and not a single mention of Robert Towne!".

One of my mentors shared these words of invaluable wisdom: choose your own assholes.
