Just went to noaa.gov to check out info about tropical storm Karen heading into the Gulf of Mexico and got this banner: "Due to the Federal government shutdown, NOAA.gov and most associated web sites are unavailable. Only web sites necessary to protect lives and property will be maintained."
Luckily, these two sites have every available tropical weather product:

My middle son lives up in southern Wyoming. They are supposed to get 6 - 14" of snow with 25 - 45 MPH winds. Yuck....

Yeah - snow out right now. Snowing pretty hard right now. It is not sticking to the roads because it was so warm a couple days ago - but it's only about 35 degrees out right now. I did managed to get winterizer fertilizer on the back lawn last night though. At least the snow is good for something. AND its supposed to be back in the 70s by Sunday. It's a miracle we all aren't sick full time out here.

Hmmm, wild weather around the country this weekend. Hurricane in the Gulf region, predicted tornado outbreaks in the Midwest, nasty Santa Ana brewing here in SoCal... high winds, scorching temps and single digit humidity expected here. Shit's gonna burn.
