The sun has not yet set on the golden age of clownburst

I like me a Fireglow Ric 4003, sure do miss the one I had.
And I had a cherry burst Gibson Nighthawk for a while in the 90s that I thought was nice looking.
Most LPs tho, esp Epis, are barfworthy.

Knaggs relic clownburst, @Guitar Heel ?

I agree, I have a Fireglow 360-12 and love that finish.
Regarding the Nighthawk, I believe that what you had was actually a "Fireburst". I own a Nighthawk SP-3 in Fireburst. That color was supposed to be reserved for the Custom and Standard models, but I found my "Special" version with the custom color at a Seattle store.

Here's a web shot of one. Note the added fade to black.

Gibson also produced some guitars in an "Autumn Burst" finish. I think they are both slightly improved over new Cherry Bursts.

But I'd say that I still can enjoy a Cherry Burst finish, but don't like them as much when the yellow area creates that near perfect tear drop shape, and in general I like them better when the reds are more subdued as they transition. Years ago I bought a '59 RI LP and was a bit skittish of getting the classic Cherry Burst (fearing I might get a clown), so I opted for the Ice Tea Burst, which to me looks a bit more like an aged CB finish.

I guess all I'm saying is that I've seen enough done well that I've never been a bit fan of the "Clown Burst" moniker for a classic color; I mean, heck Jimmy Page rocked one, but his would have had a nitro cellulose finish and would have toned down with age and light exposure. Honey Burst is another color that will get you close to an aged CB look.

Yes! Thats the one! Lots of nice tones in that thing. Got a good deal on it from a friend who had a Gibson dealership for a short time.
Sold it along with some other stuff for an engagement ring and to pay off some debt back around 1997.
