I shalt not ever assume that a car I though was cool, was. I'd not seen one up close before.

Well, I can't speak for everyone, but as someone who did pay $90K+ for one of the very cars pictured above, I can tell you that my motives had nothing to do with vanity, status symbolizing, penis measuring or any of the usual assumptions people tend to make.

In my case, it's because I appreciate it and consider it a marvel of modern engineering. Also, reliability and the other everyday considerations were very much a part of the decision.

I agree with statement completely. I didn't pay $90k for mine, but I paid a substantial amount. I did so as a reward to myself and because I viewed my choice as an example of the very peak of engineering prowess and results of the continuing refinement of a timeless design to a point of near perfection. Part of my decision to buy a Porsche was due to the fact I knew I would be able to sell it for near what I paid. So I got to enjoy that car for three years for free the way I see it. Especially since I sold the pair for $10k more than I paid.

99% of the time, I drive around in a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder with a big fuckin' dent in the rear bumper.

When I do take the GT-R out, I couldn't give a shit what anyone thinks, or what asinine assumptions they want to make about me for driving it.

I whole-heartedly support anyone who simply loves the car they own or are trying to own, be it a beater-soon-to-be-restored (minus the huge dick wing on the trunk, of course) or an Aston Martin DB9. The only adice to give would be, "own the car, don't let it own you".

If they are just another douche nozzle trying to impress the world or extend their penis, fuck 'em. No one can look up to a loser and you've wasted your time and money, dumbass.

So you find some need to justify someone's purchase in order to determine wether or not it is conspicuous consumerism and I have a chip on my shoulder? I'm trying to figure out why you care. It's their money let them spend it on whatever they want.
