the one that got away...

I let one of these red guys go in the mid 90s. 86 Mirage Custom. It still hurts.

The Tele Plus Deluxe...I should have bought at least two of them when they were available. It was the plan and I was saving, but then they stopped making them. Radiohead's ascendancy made them overly collectible and a seller's item. Some fools even bought the Deluxes, blocked the bridges and ditched the roller nuts so they'd be more like the Telecaster Plus that Greenwood plays.

So it never got away, but the opportunity was missed. Here's a few lovely examples of what I was lusting after:

Those are fucking cool!

Yeah, checking out the timeline, I bought a few guitars while they were still available, I just prioritized those other guitars...and still have a few. I wouldn't want to swap what I have for them, but I would love to have one as part of my collection. But I can't justify the current market pricing. I need to practice, get back to a decent level, and find some folks to play with.

But look at what this nitwit is asking:

Even the dude selling the highly sought after Greenwood "model" is selling for significantly less...oops, Greenwood has the maple board:

Having never sold a guitar, I have no ragrets. I do miss one that was stolen and one that was destroyed though.

Iposted a thread not so long ago about Katie...ummm...oh guitars....

I used to have one of these in Blue. Sold it because I needed money urgently at the time. The only guitar I ever regret selling

I was so jealous of that guitar. Still remember you having it from HC.

Man, if those came in green, I would stop at nothing to have one.

That would be nice...especially a deep transparent green over a nice ash body. I would love a reissue with a thinline options, but still with the trem.

I'm surprised they haven't released a Greenwood edition yet, even if it's Custom Shop or MIM instead of a regular U.S. production model.

Back around 1979, I had a 61 LP SG. It had an intonation issue that I was too dumb and green to fix, and I couldn't afford a luthier, so I sold it.

But my biggest regrets are 2 basses, a Ric 4003 and a short scale Guild acoustic.

The OP shocked me - because IIRC the mean time a guitar stays in his collection seems to be about three weeks!

Seriously, though - the 1975ish Custom Telecaster in the hands of the guy below at left was mine until 1979. I sold it to help pay for my wedding. The wife was worth it (one of the few things in my life I haven't gotten rid of at some time or another over the past 38 years!) but I'd sure like to check out that tele again. FWIW, I'm still in contact with the owner, and he still plays out now and then. Another interesting fact - the drummer and guitarist in the center are Butch Vig and Doug (aka Duke) Erikson who later became somewhat famous. At this time, they were just in a local band (Spooner).

Still miss the EBMM Luke I had to sell to pay my bills a few years back, went through a really rough patch at the time.
That was a kickass guitar. Pre compensated nut version as well.
But...you gotta survive. :embarrassed:

At this point there isn't really a particular guitar I need though. Except the P90 Tele build I'm planning. And yes, it will be green.

My first guitar was a 1963 tele I got for $75. About 3-4 year later I sold it for $150. It was blonde. Hate to think what it's worth today

I saw my favorite G&L for sale on craigslist that I had traded in years ago for an electric upright bass. I was excited since it was at a pawnshop where I have a pretty good relationship with the owner. I took my '97 MIA Strat to see if they'd do a straight trade, and they agreed to it. Unfortunately whoever owned it after me really changed it up. Changed out the locking tuners, changed pickups, heavily dinged up neck and somehow has gaps on each side of neck pocket.
It was great to find (one of) the ones that got away, but it was like getting together with your ex and then finding out while you were apart she banged the whole basketball team.
It felt pretty good bringing my '97 Strat back home.
