the one that got away...

It's not secret that I have bought and sold quite a few guitars. I normally don't care because I move on to bigger and better things. Over the past few weeks I've been thinking about this guitar. I consider it "the one that got away". It's the first guitar I bought after I graduated college. I sold it because I wanted an Ibanez Jem or something, but it was a really fantastic playing and sounding guitar.

I've come to the realization that I am a super strat guy... love the feel of a strat but love to tones of a LP.

I actually found one for sale at a crazy good price and I just might pull the trigger... we'll see.

Here's a pic:

What's the one guitar that "got away" from you?

Telecaster Deluxe Plus, loved it but needed recording equipment more at the time which turned out to be a good idea. Loved th a t guitar though, looked like this one....

Oddly, nothing that screams 'special.' It was a Fender Modern Player Marauder in Lake Placid Blue. It was really fun to play, and the pickup combo (watery "Jazzmaster" pup in the neck, and a righteous triple-coil (!!) in the bridge) got some fantastic tones. Plus it was sort of a one-off lark for FMIC. I loved that guitar, even if it was only $350.

Sadly, when we were broken into, it was the one guitar that was stolen. In a room full of USA guitars (Fender and Gibson) and a couple Reverends, etc., they walked off with my Marauder. I still miss it, and damned if they aren't next to impossible to find used.

There have been quite a few over the years, but I think the one I miss the most is my Reverend Jetstream 390. I know I can replace it with a current model or track down an older one in Metallic Blue, but that was such a great fucking guitar. My American Deluxe Strat was a stellar instrument too; even though a Strat is easy to replace, I do worry I'll never get that Strat tone the same...

Eh, it's a guitar. As far as guitars go, I've pretty much been the most spoiled person, ever.

I sold a beautiful blue metallic Washburn super strat in the early 90s to the brother of my best friend (let's call him B). It was his first decent guitar (all Squiers and worse before that). The guitar was wonderful, with a JB in the bridge, sweet singles, a super comfortable unfinished neck and a quite stable trem. I sold it to partially fund my Gibson MIII Standard (still in a case under my bed).

B and his brother/my buddy went to remote in-state college Texas Tech in Lubbock (aka Lubuttock). B ended his spring semester early by placing out of all but 1 of his finals, so he sold the guitar to a pawn shop for $150 to buy a ticket home 5 days before his brother, who still had tests.

If he'd only called me, I'd have bought the damned guitar back for twice what he sold it for right away. Dammit.

Looked for a picture, but couldn't find it.

Her name was Lynn...she was beautiful, I was an idiot...:(

...wait, you meant guitars, didn't you?:embarrassed:
Kelly.

Of course I wouldn't have bothered with my wife when I met her if I had that girl. But the one night stand I could have had would have been nice.

Guitars...

I parted out a Performance parts Frankenstein superstrat that my cousin sold me because I was pissed about a cold solder joint on the volume pot. Gave away the body, humbucker (also from performance) and original floyd. The neck I gave back to my cousin eventually, but that's the only part where I remember where it went.

Barracks life is a blur from back then.

Iposted a thread not so long ago about Katie...ummm...oh guitars....

I used to have one of these in Blue. Sold it because I needed money urgently at the time. The only guitar I ever regret selling

there's been several i regret not buying... some that come to mind:
1) a EVH frankenstein (the $25k one) which a shop owner offered to me for <$10k. was very close to buying it and must have stood there for almost an hour pondering on whether or not to do it.

2) a 2nd gibson R9 when MF had them priced low (either due to mistake or crazy good sale) at like $3300. I've grown so fond of that guitar that I'd love to have another as a backup.

3) PRS singlecut when a dealer was losing the line and blowing them out for crazy good deals. I could snagged one for $1200 but it was but-ugly color (dark brown, ewww). The other PRSi were sold by then otherwise i'd have snagged a DGT or a custom 22/24

4) Jackson PC1 splatter that was priced at like $3500.. they've since shot up in price and rarely pop up on market.

5) passed on a new fender select koa carved top / RW neck telecaster for $999 at VictorLitz. I bought its sister model with a maple top / Maple neck which is one of my main stage guitars now, but couldn't justify to wife that i should buy two telecasters at same time. but i should just snagged that one too. fantastic instrument.

I don't really have one for guitars.
I wish I hadn't sold my Marshall SS 50W combo, though.
