The "How did you put together your pedalboard?" thread.

I've never been a pedal guy, but I think with this new EVH 5150 III 50w amp, I'm going to get a few

It has a great clean channel, and the high-gain channel for metal is awesome, so I think I need a good dirt pedal to get a milder distortion for bluesy/softer classic rock stuff. Any suggestions? I hear that the Blackstar pedals sound really good....

Plus I want a tuner in there, and maybe a good wah, in case I play some Metallica  Suggestions on those appreciated too.

For most of my life I played guitar strait to amp. Then I bought the Twin I'd always wanted and realized that it wasn't going to break up without help so I added a compressor, overdrive and an A/B/Y box for channel switching the Twin. I was perfectly happy with that until I recently made the mistake of buying an SCXD. Nice amp but it introduced me to all that DSP ear candy and I got hooked. At 65 I rarely gig any more so I decided to go cheap on the pedals (Biyangs and Joyos) wanting only to have something better than the SCXD on board stuff for recording and garage jams. The paint job is another story. I originally had a matching set of BBE's for compression and overdrive and one day decided to try cleaning one of them with lacquer thinner which wiped out the graphics. Duh. Problem was every time I looked at them after that they reminded me of public rest room soap dispensers so I painted them. When I bought the rest of the pedals I figured why not?

Started with this.

Now its: Pitch Black tuner - BBE Orange Squash - BBE Green Screamer - Joyo EQ - Joyo Trem - Biyang delay - Biyang reverb - Whirlwind A/B/Y.

hehe. it looks like Darth Vaders pedalboard.

I tend to use pretty high end stuff most of the time but I've heard that some of the Joyo stuff actually sounds really good.

Yah. It does get some double takes once in awhile. The Biyangs and Joyos aren't bad at all but I haven't played them in a big room so who knows. They're doing real well for my purposes though.

thats what it all comes down to. If you look at a lot of session guy boards they have a mix of the new high end stuff and then some cheaper old stuff that has worked just fine for years.

By the way I'm really liking this forum. Seems like there's a lot ka ka going on here than on some of the others.

Basic stuff, I rare use all of it at any one time.
I just have a soft bag and one of those power supply linking thingies.
Boss Tuner>Cry Baby Wah>Dano Daddy O> Phase 90>Dyna Comp>Dan Echo
Want a 60s fuzz(Merkin?) and a really good reverb unit.

I'm pretty happy with the TC Electronic Hall of Fame...I've been through about 5-6 other reverbs to this point.

This is my "smaller" rig with the TC on it:

Well I'm a little leary of Behringer and Dano pedals and the jury is still out on Joyo and Biyang afaIc, but I see absolutely no need for boutiques either. I have two BBE pedals (Two Timer and Free Fuzz) and just can't say enough good things. I feel the same way about my $50 Delta Lab Tube Overdrive (Tubescreamer clone) - just a fantastic pedal, why spend more? Love my recently acquired Digitech Synth Wah as well as my DOD Extreme Chorus. Surprisingly the one I've been having problems with (switch shorting out - contact cleaner fix) is my made in USA Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive. Can't say a bad thing about my $400 Damage Control Timeline though - OK, I do wish it didn't require its own power supply.
