What is this clown shit?

Now, some of you (excuse the obvious exceptions) have never interacted with Canadians. However:

I have literally just spent an evening with 5 (oh yeah! five real) Canadians, and I feel my anecdotal evidence is important.

I went to the bathroom and checked my phone, and saw this thread. I went back to the table and asked and they said it is 'fucking bullshit', and that 'The Hip' is number one.

Not my words, the words of proper Canadians.

It's The Hip.

I will consider myself slapped hard. The Band are pretty amazing to be sure, but Rush had a 40 year history of excellence in music and songwriting. They are one of the most influential rock bands in history, even more so than The Band.

George Harrison wanted to join the band. No Beatles ever wanted to join Rush.

In 1983, when asked who were bands that influenced them, Metallica said Rush was one of those. No mention of The Band...

Absolutely Tragically Hip should be #1. New Pornographers are great and should be much higher too, but The Hip are better than most bands, no matter where they're from. Go watch "Long Time Running" about their last tour and tell me it's not incredible what they accomplished.

The piece on Triumph is wrong. Triumph did NOT have 16 studio albums. Not even sure if you add 'best of' albums and live albums that it would add up to 16.

One current band that is not on the list that might break onto it is Unleash The Archers. UTA is pretty huge on the metal scene right now, thanks to all those youtube reaction channels. UTA was one of the bands that embraced reaction videos early on, and it paid off for them. They have a pretty big world-wide fan base now, if the couple of Discord metal channels I chat on are any indication.

I am assuming that this best "list" considers influence and popularity as major factors. So Rush as #1 I have no issue with. The Band was not all Canadian and so needs to be downgraded because of the taint . The Hip were unapologetically (sorry) Canadian and has a deep place in the heart of the country as a results. Ditto with Blue Rodeo IMO.

No best list is complete without Max Webster though :cop: YMMV

A lot of those bands are on some “Worst” lists too.

Best/worst lists are made to start arguments on the Internet.
