i found the issue with the mic in the room. i can use iMovie and record direct from my digital video camera, but regardless of my sound settings in the system preferences, that audio that's being used is from the cam not the input of the laptop. any idears?

I don't know. I use a USB LDC mic and I thought I was able to select the audio input in the main OS preferences/sound control panel (not in iMovie.). I'll look when I get into work.
 
Here is the guitar I just painted for Zemmy. As always, I'm not completely happy with the turnout. I just cannot get these pens to flow and mix for me the way that I have seen others. Here is a succession of photos that show the process.
