That Seedy Table In The Dark Corner Where The Reprobates Gather

Morning all.

Watched the SB yesterday with my girlfriend and her friend, which followed with her going to the bar and calling us. Her friend has a REAL problem with alcohol. She has gotten 3 DWI's, doesn't have a license for a few more years, but my girlfriend insists that she's such a great friend and person, and she wants to make sure she doesn't get in trouble. She wouldn't leave with us at the end of the night, and was going to leave with a guy she knew, and go back to her house and 'cuddle'. How do you deal with alcoholics? How do you help them? Her parents obviously don't care. When she was in rehab, her dad even peed for her so she could pass her drug test. They even let her drink at home without saying a thing. I guess something bad has to happen for her to get it.

Monday!

Late shift this week starting last night. Of COURSE the only call I got yesterday was right smack dab in the middle of the Super Bowl - you know, the exciting part ...oh, well. I guess that's better than getting NO calls, then worrying about what's around the corner. They can't keep paying me to do almost nothing...

So today, I'm gonna clean up and restring the Midtown, and I will probably head out and get a multieffect, or at least a delay and reverb thingy to go with my sweet new Excelsior -DAMN, that thing is great for the price. The naysayers can KMA :embarrassed:.

With that many people enabling her, help is hard.

true. some folks just need to hit bottom hard to figure things out.

Dammit, EG, I can't wait anymore, it's 13F out here. Plus, my mom wants me to take her to Walmart to get her daily ammo ration.

Morning

So this sore throat head cold started on Saturday morning, was a little worse on Sunday morning, and is kicking my ass currently. I don't think it is the Flu though - not much body ache. A head cold with a bitch of a sore throat.

On the Game: So I am a Packers fan- but despite SF getting in the way of GB's trip to the Super Bowl a number of times- I kind of wanted SF to win. Not that I really have anything against Baltimore- just kind of wanted SF to win. No biggie though.

She has to hit rock bottom and seek help. If she's not willing to recognize her problem, there's not much you can do.

Monday morning blahs -- have the ol' chest congestion, so I'm on a heavy dose of mucinex (well -- the Costco version of guaifenisen) and hope it clears up soon, since I have HS soccer games to referee T-W-Th-F... In the meantime, I'm waiting for the UPS man sometime this week; the package has been sent!

Absolutely. A lot of times people show up at my office for treatment because they are compelled to come. The best I can do is try to get them to recognize a need to change. Sadly, part of the problem of addiction is the person's inability to recognize the problem. Addiction is not rational.

Hey -- I can quit (insert behavior here) anytime I want!!! :snooty:

Boy have I heard that a lot.

The average pot smoker might have a THC level in the hundreds; I had one kid whose THC level was in the high (pun intended) nine thousands. His statement to me when I shared this with him? "Hey -- I can quit anytime I want!!!"

I pointed out that the levels indicated that he obviously never wanted to quit. Not even for a moment.
