That’s grounds for dee-vorce in Texas

I’m curious about the genetic part of the soap versus cilantro taste. The first few times I ate cilantro it tasted like soap. For a while I asked for iti to be held from my food at restaurants. A year or two later somebody still put it on despite me asking it to be withheld. I was hungry and I ate it and it was wonderful. Now I like it on most of my Mexican food.

Maybe, you’ve developed a taste for soap. :embarrassed:

(Edit) from Britannica…

The perception of cilantro tasting like soap is linked to genetic variations in olfactory receptor genes, particularly the OR6A2 gene. This gene increases sensitivity to aldehydes, compounds found in both cilantro and soap, leading to the soapy taste some individuals experience.

From Wikipedia…

Studies have shown that this genetic trait varies among populations, with a higher prevalence in East Asian and Caucasian groups, and a lower prevalence in regions where cilantro is commonly used in cuisine, such as South Asia and the Middle East.

From Allrecipes…

While the OR6A2 gene plays a significant role, other genetic factors may also contribute to the aversion to cilantro. Some individuals may have heightened sensitivity to bitter tastes or other compounds in cilantro, further influencing their perception of its flavor.
