Tech Peeps - your thoughts? Headset content

I work full time from home.

Company gave me a Macbook of some sort (yes me and OGG can serenade each other with Apple stuff)

I have internet with Vonage for office calling (Voice of IP).

I have software thats all integrated and can call/dial from my Macbook which in theory would be ideal, over the internet.

Headset thoughts? I assume just one that plugs into a USB port, or do I need something with the little teeny pin for the headphone jack (which I assume) wouldn't let me speak as it's only an output device.

recommendations?

I would go USB as they're 99.99999% plug and play. If your Mac has a mic input they make them for that too, but USB is going to be the easiest/most reliable.
Sound quality on both ends will not really matter based on price so you can get something inexpensive. I've used a $5 headset and it sounded fine for that type of use.

I use a USB headset from Plantronics and the audio is fantastic.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it's wired.
Invariably, I will take it off and then not hear a call come in.

Yes, there are ways to make the ringing sound come out the speakers as well. That's fine.
The other thing I don't like is that the phone rings in my ear and scares the shit out of me.

I've tried Bluetooth solutions and I think I've found one that I can live with. It's a stick-it-in-your-ear kind but it seems to be ok. The only caveat is to remember to keep it charged up.

My current solution to all of this is to not talk on the phone.

Many headphones have a built in mic on the wire, and all modern 3.5mm female audio jacks are wired for a mic too, as they are input/output ports.

typical apple earbuds for example:
Notice the male plug has 3 rings + pin? See the rectangular box with + and - ? It's a microphone.

I use a Plantronics Voyager Legend for my conference calls and Meetings. I work from home a large part of the week, and I am on the phone a lot. I tried the plug in headphones and a couple of other headsets, but all of my customers and employees all agree that the sound quality is definitely best from the Voyager.
