Question: Talk me out of/into an SG

Specials, Jrs etc usually come with P90s, a wrap around bridge, and a beefier neck. Cool guitars but a totally different thing.

IIRC only specific models in the LP Custom line-up are sans maple top. 57 RIs are one
 
I forgot to add that I really like how damn thin they are and how that feels on a strap compared to other guitars. It is really a comfortable thing to play, even if it looks all pointy in places.

There's something about the SG that I don't like for me, aesthetically speaking. But the amount of incredible sounds and music that has come from SGs is insane. My SG-esque want is the Guild S-100.

Having spewed that nonsense, despite my lack of appreciation for the large guard it looks quite nice on the ebony. Sweet looking guitar. I know it's a killer rock machine, but the black with the chrome and white trim looks rather classy.

I was there for many years with SGs, then suddenly I found myself loving the look. I do think my delving into the music of the Grateful Dead and looking at Jerry's many guitars had a lot to do with my evolving appreciation of the SG.

Thats my take on the color. The traditional cherry is nice looking, but rather pedestrian. The black is classier and has a more upscale vibe, just my opinion.. Plus the old 61' that inspired it was black.
It's gonna make a nice devilish companion to my heavenly inspired White Falcon:)
 
The SG just arrived. Overall it looks and feels like a pretty nice one. The fingerboard looks to be a bit dried out so I'll need to address that right away.
The neck is beefier than I remember the old 61' being, but its also wider than I remember. Which is good, I can deal with wide. But I really can't get on with a thin front to back & a wide neck, those always cramp my hand playing bar chords. But there's some beef in the back of this one, so it won't have that issue. Maybe its just that I'm more used to Epi necks and string spacing so its possible my memory was clouded a bit.
Not a scratch on it that I can see, bindings looks fine, inlays looks sharp and clean. We'll see how good the fretwork is once I play it a bit. Frets are taller than I remember the old one being as well.
The set up seems acceptable tho not spectacular, I think it can be improved.
First impression is it's no Pro Line White Falcon as far as fit and finish, but hey, it cost half as much.
It still has the warranty card and case goodies(minus the cheap strap), so it must be a 2020 that went unsold.
Gonna go plug her up and have a go. NGD pics and further review to come later.

Cool. I like the look of SGs and SGs make the noises on many of my fav records. I’ve not bonded with the couple I’ve owned.

I recently picked up a Reverend Roundhouse which is their take on the Les Paul with a Korina body and a maple cap and it’s capable of the SG type sounds. But I keep thinking that maybe one day I’ll get another SG.
