Bryan Adams was born in 1959 which would have made him 10 in the summer of 69.

Which makes the song a bullshit boomer pandering that was common in the 80s.

Unless, of course, he was not referring to the year 1969.

It’s not literally a song about the summer of 1969. It’s about a grown man being old enough to realize how great it was to be eighteen and how he’ll never be that happy and carefree again.

In the summer of 1969, I was taken to a Stop The War rally on the common in Cambridge, MA, and while I sat on my mom's shoulders someone draped a white-peace-sign-on-black-background flag over me and her shoulders. It got in the newspaper. I wish I had that clipping.
