Straps - low or high?

I'm in the process of putting together a band to play my songs (see sig), and decided to get a new strap. I'll be on bass

I've found that it's more comfortable for me to have the strap quite short, so the bass is quite high up on my body. Not as high as Phil Lynott had it, but you know what I mean

Are you a guitar-around-the-ankles dude, or more of a guitar-massaging-the-man-boobs chap? Pray tell :)

I play bass fairly high, and guitar in the middle. Just where I feel like I can play the instrument the best.

I play bass sitting down :embarrassed: Guitar is held quite high, it's not rock n roll, but gives me chance of playing the damn thing more or less properly.

I like the guitar up high, in the uncool zone. With the guitar down low, I find it physically painful to get my hand at the proper angle to the fretboard. I know that's what the cool people do, but I just can't, and I won't.

All of this.

When one is young, you always want to play down by your knees, who didn't. You later find that you are always hunched.

When you get older and receive some edumacation, strap goes medium.

If you play classical, you are taught to have everything high. This helps with posture and reduces hand injuries.

Then there is the modified positioning ala Zakk Wylde (guitar) and Robert Trujillo compromising the high and low. High with the fretting hand, low with the picking hand.

In fact Zakk goes further by going vertical for solos.

Me...I am mid-high. I will life the guitar up sometimes as well so that it is higher.

I keep mine low because I have ridiculously long, monkey-like arms. Top edge of the guitar just above my belt buckle.

^Yeah I am somewhat in the same mid-zone for my guitars.
I like having my bass up pretty high though. I don't use a pick and I like to slap. So having it up high works best for my playing style.

I'm a kinda right in the middle. When I adjust a strap I sit up straight in a chair and adjust it just short enough so it doesn't slide off my shoulder.
Then when I stand up that put it pretty much belt high. A smaller bodied instrument with a smaller lower bout will wind up a little lower slung than a larger body, but basically in the same neighborhood.

I'm in the medium category, but on the upper end of it. I think dmn23's pic is pretty close to what I do.
