Special type of guitar, HH, or P90’s for you?

I started trying to price one out w/ Warmoth. Oddly the didn't offer the Tele bridge route. Surely they know about cut Tele bridges. Sure, I could call them, but default to Strat hardtails when someone's looking to do a Tele build...strangeness.

That said, it wouldn't surprise if part of their deal w/ licensing from Fender included a moratorium on offering specs of new Fender models. Getting conversion neck is a tempting thought too...

Huh both my current Warmoth Teles and my the 2 I no longer have were/are Tele bridge routes. Even my one that had a humbucker in the bridge was the 4 hole Tele.

Spent a shit ton on brakes for van, paint and mask for a guitar yesterday. Still reading this thread and thinking, man I want a P90 guitar. There are by the way some BG Pure90s on Ebay right now.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/2941393280...rentrq:1d3607271790a9bdf89f6c42ffbaec7c|iid:1

Really, really, really don't want black. Should also mention every dammed time someone here puts BG pickups in the spam thread, 6 months or a year later, I kick myself for not buying them.

My other goto is Rose pickups. Have his American Beauties in one Strat, Mariposas in another and had a Buckeroo in the bridge of the Peavy , my avatar. So, I head on over to his page to see if he does a hum size P90. Nope. But he does do a hum size Jazzmaster.

Did not know there was such a thing. Did not know I want a pair so much. And, WTF, What is the deal with no cream?

Balsa Wood and Spit does have this that comes in nickel...

Hmm.

Every once in a while I GAS for a simple LP Special type (not necessarily a Les Paul) of guitar with in a HH or 2xP90 set up. Probably more that type than a traditional LP type. Something about the stripped down-ness.

Reverend Sensei, Yamaha Revstar, Ibanez, etc.

If you were going to get one of those, would you prefer the HH or the 2x90 style and why? @Brian Krashpad , curious what you think too.
P-90’s are a lot more dynamic pickups. It really just depends on the guitar. While I prefer P-90’s if I’m going to play somewhere, I grab a humbucker or noiseless guitar. P-90’s can get crazy with bad wiring.

The point of this is at some point, I am thinking about a simple "Special" style short scale rocker. I don't have a set neck HH guitar other than my Hagstrom. And because of the huge popularity of LP's, was wondering if I needed such a rig. But, . . . thinking the Hag gets me close enough there for what I need, and if I want just a fun rocker, a P90 guitar might suit me better. Could always go with some relatively inexpensive model such as a used Revstar with HH, and get a H size set of P90's too, I suppose. But, with all that said, I wonder if my tele with the P90 in the neck and A3 rockwind tele bridge pickup is close enough. Maybe, for sound, but it is not short scale, so, at some point, . . . GAS.

If I were to get such a thing, previous belt rash or nicks would not matter as long as the guitar performed ok, as the whole point would be to have a punky/power-pop/grungey machine. Also why I don't really GAS as much for the real LP style with the fancy top and all that.
Humbucker sized P90’s never sound right. At least the ones I have tried.

They can do it.

My original Landshark Star was a half tele bridge with a humbucker in the bridge and a Strat in the neck.

And my new Tribute Star has a recessed, non-fine tuner Floyd route which also isn't listed on the site.

So, I made that $130 offer (plus the excessive shipping charge, so $230 shipped) Which I thought was pretty good, as it had the upgraded tuners and the Dimarzio in the bridge, and the guy took the deal, but later told me the neck pickup didn’t work, and then without replying to my reply asking for a some more off the price to take care of the PU not working, as he thinks it is just the wiring from when he put the replacement PU in the bridge, he just refunded the charge. No discussion.

Not really what I wanted, as I was liking the idea of an all mahogany LP style that was cheap so I could just mess around with it and not worry about it. But, . . . Oh well. I guess I didn’t need a new guitar right now.

Kinda was thinking about making that work on this beater mahogany Ibanez I was going to get, to kinda/sorta approximate Ol’ Black. Don’t worry, I know putting a P9o in the neck of a LP copy with a Dimarzio PAF in the bridge won’t necessarily be the same as Ol’ Black, but thought it might be a fun experiment. I PM’d the guy to see if he would reconsider and just take another $30 off and still sell, but he is not responding. So, not gonna beg, and another opportunity will come along.

I like that Rev, but I do want to get a mahogany set neck with a short scale for something different. Most everything I have is fender style. That LP looks interesting. Which one is that?

I think it's the Lou Pallo signature model, but the LP BFGs came with that configuration as well (though Gibson made some odd choices to accompany it).

I have an Ibanez SZ520 with an Air Zone in the bridge and a Bluesbucker (P90-voiced humbucker) in the neck. It's a very versatile combo.

That sounds like a Pickup combo I would like. I may wait around for a good deal on a used ESP LTD EC-256 and consider swapping out the more “Metal Voiced” pickups that come with that guitar for something like that Air Zone and Bluesbucker.

Meanwhile, I will just play my Hagstrom for short scale HH.

EDIT: I like that BFG. I like the weirdo stripped down choices. https://www.premierguitar.com/oh-henry-gibsons-les-paul-bfg

Though I could get there by modding the LTD too, and then would have the nice contours they put on that body.

Yeah that BFG is an oddly attractive weirdo, kind of like Aubrey Plaza or Fairuza Balk.

The Air Zone sounds great with all styles, including metal (in fact, that's the guitar I play most of my drop D riffage on), and with less aggressive styles as well. And it sounds perfectly fine split to my ears.

The Bluesbucker is a surprisingly versatile pickup. Check out this dude Lucas Fowler, who is a big fan of the pickup and uses it to great effect both straight and split:

I have been thinking about Wayt I feel the need to add he said Nick guitar to my Hegstrom.

I think it comes down to two things. Number one, I am not in love with the neck pick up on that Hagstrom. It just is a little muddanf lacks clarityI guess I could just figure out how to replace it though it will be a bit of a pain on the semi hollow. And then I suppose that could be good enough.

Except for number two, if I could get one pretty cheap, a solid body LP style would be a little more comfortable, especially around the house and it’s sitting, etc. Especially the way they kind to her those ESP guitars.

The whole reason I stay away from neck pickups is that they sound muddy and muffled to me. If that is your knock on the stock Hag pickup, I suggest getting a DiMarzio Humbucker from Hell. I know that sounds like a pickup that a death metal band would use. From DiMarzio "Why is it called The Humbucker From Hell®? Try it in the bridge position with a bright amp — but put in your earplugs first, and don’t say you weren’t warned." It sounds great.
