It doesn't have the farmstead density of Amish communities like Arthur or what you see in IN and OH but it's higher than average. Did a bunch of google searches but couldn't find anything.

Drove past one of the old coots, "our mayor", stopped, backed up, had a chat. Thanked him for the reco for the dude that pumped the septic tank, signed his petition for another 4 year term, "he had tried to get me to run, hint: anybody that runs will win but, I told him I couldn't afford to retire from my job to work almost for free".

Yes, there are Mennonites centered on Fairbury.

10/4. Also saw a ton of home businesses, including "such and such family farm" with websites featuring pictures of big families in "please do not fuck me" type clothing so I figured.

Did 58 miles, 3-4 shorter than my longest for the year. I had planned on trying for 70-75 but didn't get started early enough and I got too big a taste of stronger than forecasted headwinds out on teh barren prairie and shaved it a little.

had my first brake or die situation with this bike coming down to the river. plenty of momentum and a 90 degree curve at the bottom with more hill and the river below it. not an old hand with disc brakes and was not overly impressed with the stopping power. got pretty nervous for a second. i probably could have squeezed them harder though.
spot the hunter. i crossed the river on a trail prior to this and had a rare tree stand hunter sighting from above.

redneck rock stacking with road chunks.

nearly got pancaked while climbing the other side of the valley. some steep, blind curves so i was glued to the far right side of the road and of course some asshat in an oncoming suv is cornering like they're in F1 and blows past me within a few feet

might have been another coldest ride yet. nws and wunderground say it was high of 43. weather.com forecasted 47. might not have done it with 43 forecasted but I just had cold toes. just noticed i had a stick in my spokes that was probably there for 20 miles. *spits*
