So you guys that have a Fender Mustang amp, tell me about them...

I have no idea what the the 21 sounds like.

These models never sound like the "real thing" but I can get some usable tones for the money. Not going to gig with it but it's great for practicing.

The smaller Mustangs are really good for what they are designed to do and at a great price.

Having said that, the Super Champ X2 deflates the Mustang when it comes to tone, realistic models, intuitive interface, and touch sensitivity. I'll keep both for their respective strengths.

The mustang sounds WAY better after adjusting sag and bias. But needs the laptop for that.

I love my mustang 2, use it all the time.

As far as the USB goes, it's an audio device on your computer and you can record direct with it. I've done several recordings late at night direct to the computer while listening through headphones, it works great. I use reaper, btw - the recording software that comes w/the mustang is not that useful.

Also, make sure you download the latest fuse and mustang firmware from fender: https://fuse.fender.com/

As far as tones go, I find the tweeds sound great, the blackface great and the others are OK. Not crazy about the pedal effects but they are functional.

Here is a side by side comparison I did w/a drri and a mustang 2 DR model.

FWIW, I've since since traded off the DRRI.

Here's some random tracks down w/the mustang. No, they're nothing great, but for a something done in my basement just goofing around, more than adequate.

Agreed on the sag and bias adjustments - really like the the twin and deluxe reverb models w/sag to the left and bias to the right.

I see the v2 models are coming out. Be interested in trying one. I've been toying with the idea of getting a III for a long time.

If anyone could dial in a great blues tone on the mustang 1, please post your settings or PM me. I'm looking specifically for a BB King, Albert King tone.
I've found I can get a good lead tone, but the chords sound like crap or vice versa.
Help a noob out?
Through Fuse is preferred since there's so many more amps available.

So I've been using the Mustang II for classes this week and I've discovered that the distorted tones especially are really (as Tyler put it from across the room) "abrasive". I think these are great amps to play with at home but unless the bigger ones have something else going on they really aren' the best for playing out.

Yep, some of the buzzy metal factory presets sounds like ass. I've replaced most of them or tweaked the settings.

Yeah, you really need to tweak the higher gain amps to the toanz. The super-sonic sounds great, but it takes a little work. That and the matched/bias settings make a big difference.
