Dogue in teh desert
.....this is what happened in southern AZ about 30 miles N. of Tucson this morning...
even in the winter water is important in the desert. This is the first one of these I've seen The bottles were marked "public" or AZT (Arizona Trail) . The box was unlocked and it was about . 3 mile from the trailhead. I suppose if you were desperate this would be a godsend but some unscrupulous ahole could taint teh water with brown acid or whatnot
Somewhere after this I went under the one tree that had shade and while I was beginning to fill Sonnys bowl with water from my bladder (my pack bladder not my human body bladder...that would be disgusting ) he spotted apack rat nest and of course he stuck his nose in and came up with a piece of cholla cactus like this
stuck to his neck. Unfortunately I failed to bring any tweezers or pliers (we were on a run) so I reverted to the trusty stick method only to move it up to the from of his chin I ended up knocking it off and then pulling out the three or four needles that were left...he never even flinched> Then he stepped in one
When I got back home I opened the doors to warm the house up while I took my shower and here it is.....
