So Whaddaya cooking? Whaddaya eating?

We hosted, as usual. I've been doing a couple turkey breast roasts in one crock pot and a bunch of drumsticks in another crock pot, rather than a whole bird, for a few years now. Comes out perfect every time and is a lot easier. We had some vegetarians and one gluten intolerant individual this year, so we also made some roasted celeriac (celery root) medalions with a veggie broth-based gravy, and we used gluten-free bread in our stuffing. Then of course we had the mashed potatoes, King's Hawaiian rolls, canned cranberry sauce, steamed green beans with almond slivers, sweet potatoes au gratin, apple pie, and pumpkin pie. Everyone was stuffed, and a good time was had by all.
Had a few glasses of rye and one of bourbon, as well.

I tried smoking our turkey in our Weber Kettle. I used the 'snake' method and pecan for the smoke wood (could not find any cherry chunks - which is my preferred smoke wood).

It cooked a bit faster than I planned so the very top of the breast meat was a bit (tiny bit) dry, the rest of the bird was dead on. Tasted great.

I did follow through with the beer and pizza plan. It turns out that drinking four pints wrecks my intestines the next day. I miss being young enough to get tore the fuck up on holidays.

I made corn souffle. A different creamed corn casserole, it was OK, not great. Wife made most everything else except a few things guests brought.

Turkey was free from Son's girlfriend's work. Wife had a doctor's appointment in Bloomington, where son lives, two weeks ago and picked it up. It was missing the tag that shows the weight. Kind of important to know when you start thawing it, how long it's going to take to cook. I spent the last two weeks trying to find out how much it weighs. We have a food scale. It goes up to 10 pounds. Any thing more and it says error. We don't have a scale you weigh yourself on, wife does not allow one in our house. Called friends and neighbors, no luck and how accurate would they be anyway. Went to the post office to pick up the mail, brought the turkey with me and begged. 14.45 pounds. Kind of small we usually get a 20ish pound one. You gotta have leftovers, it's the payoff for busting your ass getting the house ready and cooking everything but, we don't want to offend/not look like we don't appreciate the tiny turkey. As luck would have it, wife who is miss food safety, still won't but anything but, organic beef because of mad cow disease, well, she still puts the stuffing in the turkey. Son begs her every year to not put the stuffing in the turkey. Last year, she relented and cooked it in a separate pan. It was a disaster. So, we bought a turkey breast, brought us up to around 20 pounds, and cooked it on top of the stuffing. The stuffing we could get out of the pan was great. Soaked the pan for a couple hours, dumped it in the sink, threw handfuls of it in the garbage, soaked it some more... Happy Thanksgiving

Turkey, ham, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, roasted brussel sprouts, rolls, sausage stuffing, kentucky derby pie, pumpkin pie, 7 layer bars, a few gluten free baked items for several family members.
Thanksgiving was weird as I've explained elsewhere but I enjoyed it.
Working on Christmas dinner menu. Might get a bit off the beaten path since I'm held to tradition on Thanksgiving.
