So Whaddaya cooking? Whaddaya eating?

We’re in the Goldilocks zone this year - neither hosting nor traveling. We’re going to a friend’s house. Our contribution is the mashed potatoes and tenderloin/bacon/onion skewers on the grill, because I’m sure they don’t need me clogging up the kitchen.

Turkey/stuffing/gravy is also on the menu, along with fresh-bean green bean casserole, several scratch made pies and cinnamon rolls, some manner of sweet potatoes, and 2 cranberry sauces.

And probably 5 more things I don’t even know about yet.

I’m going to spend the day drinking a bottle of expensive ale and eating frozen pizza for dinner. After that I’ll chow down on a big slice of pumpkin pie from Whole Foods. And I’m going to spend most of the day watching old movies. I’m not sure if I’ll watch all for Urotsukidōji movies or old horror movies.

We’re back in the Bay Area visiting the kids and going up to Santa Rosa for T-Day. I made a pumpkin and an apple pie in the kitchen of our daughter’s studio apt to bring up. She basically had no baking ingredients so I had to buy practically everything I needed.

Well played, bsdaughter. well played.

I'm making a shaved brussel sprout salad, and my wife picked up some rolls and cheese this afternoon. We're going to my parents.

We have been going to our friends place for years. This year is going to be difficult because one of the other families that always goes too won't this year as their son was killed in a motorcycle accident a month ago. Great young man smart and personable, really a sad thing. But live goes on for the rest of us so we'll go and enjoy our time with our friends. We are bringing corn bread and sautéed green beans. And I will be bringing my buddy some fine PNW beer for his enjoyment :thu:

It will just be three of us - wife, mom and I. I’ll be making osso buco and risotto. The hardest part is already done - driving up to Austin to get the veal shanks and stuff from the foodie mart.

Thanksgiving here has been postponed till at least Saturday. . . that's the usual meal, turkey, potatoes, etc. Tonight, instead, we're having meatloaf and green bean casserole :thu:

I had a Wetherspoons curry and a pint of Stella, we're not too big on Thanksgiving over here for some reason.

I always go to brothers house for Turkey Day. I have family that say they are gluten free (never been tested, but swear they get sick eating gluten :eyeroll:) and also family members who are vegetarian. So I leave the cooking to them so that I dont accidently contaminate anyone.

I get to bring the (non-alcohol) drinks. This year I am bringing Aldi sparkling grape juice, both red & white, plus some sparkling apple juice.

Is that the curry they have for special on Thursday nights ( I think it was Thursday)?

I just remember getting an 'X night special' and it was curry, when we ate at a Wetherspoon's back in 2014, in London. I remember it being decent, if not as good as a local curry place.

Yup. I have awesome Barbacoa in the Foodi but a friend has taken over a local bar so we wandered down to see how they're getting on but they're still prepping to reopen so we wandered another 10 minutes down the hill to the main street with limited dining options.

There's a very good Indian place on our main street but service is very slow. Ok for a Friday or Saturday when you can bosh 3 or 4 Stella's waiting on your meal but not so much a school night so Wetherspoons it was.

It is what it is, cheap, cheerful food. Probably works out the same £ as a McDonald's if you factor in the alcoholic drink you get.

*buuuuurp* man that was some good baby cow

The cook gets the ugly plate with the odd freaky pieces.

Honestly, osso buco is something I usually enjoy cooking more than eating. It is a crowd-pleaser, but I guess I’m not really a veal guy. But tonight I really dug it! Didn’t hurt that we had the perfect wine to go along with it.

We were invited to go to a restaurant with Carol's sister and her significant other. They had a Thanksgiving buffet for $35, and a limited menu of other options. None of them were vegetarian. I wouldn't mind choosing the veggies from the buffet, but I didn't want to pay $35 for it.

They finally got the folks in the kitchen to make a vegetarian meal for me. Despite the problem, it was nice getting together with family.
