So it finally happened. We got the bumped!

HALF PRICE on the first show?

Sorry... but no thank you. If it was YOUR BAND's first couple shows maybe.... Occasionally I'll knock $100 off the price as long as beer is provided for the band....

.... but once your band has an established track record of "we play here, here, there, there, and this place...." your price is your price. Once a venue has "your price" in their head, it's VERY hard to come back later and double that price.

Our price is pretty well determined by venue size, how much gear we need to bring, and if it's a band load in or if we need one (or sometimes two) sound and/or lighting guys.

Yeah I just picked up on the discount bit.

10 quid says the band you've been bumped for are doing it for a discount too. At that stage it's a race to the bottom.

My DJ prices are what they are these days because I'm established and don't need the gig, you guys sound like you're in a similar boat so charge what you're worth.

A client that values what you do will pay it.

One that doesn't will book you cheaper then fuck you down the line like in this case...

Yup, fuck that guy in his stupid fucking meathead face. There are no "good" reasons for this to happen. The switch was made based on something shady without a doubt. Either it's to save a buck, or to play favorites or nepotism on some level. That's just bullshit and a big red flag. I'd avoid that place like the plague from now on.

The typical rate here here is $100 per person. Full 4 person band we charge $400 and the duo we charge $200.

We never discount the the full band price. Ever.

The duo, typically we will charge half price the first time only at a new place. This was the first new place we've played at in some time.

The typical place we have the duo acoustic at doesn't have a venue large enough for the full band fo their acoustic acts are 99% folk music/singer song writer stuff. We have very much more upbeat material, we tell them that and why we are different. We always get invited back and rescheduled (Except this asshat who moved us out). They rate every time after that is full price.

So, the censuses is eff that guy. I'm cool with that.

Pretty close to here... we're 100-200 per man, per night (including per member and per sound guy). Bars are on the lower end of that spectrum, casinos and private parties on the upper. Then we charge more if we go beyond 3 hours, longer travel, or extreme load ins.

I think $80 per guy ($400 for a 5 piece) is the least we've played for.

Not that I'm saying yall real musicians should consider changing it up and having a mac book play Abba and Kenny Rogers songs but I just converted my average DJ fee last year to the closest £10... :embarrassed:

Oh yeah, I make WAY more when I DJ. 600-1000 goes right in my pocket with the remainder going to my company for the gear.

But it's no where near as satisfying or exciting. It's just good money.

I wish we could play for crowds like this (from one of my DJ shows)

I wish Danza Kuduro was more popular over here :embarrassed:

Im actually past the point of missing being in a band. The business part of it sucks but I have as much, if not more fun DJing than I ever did in bands.

Plus it comes with the added bonus that I'm the only asshole I need to worry about fucking up

The dough is just a very nice added bonus.
