Singing Bassists

I'm not a bad bassist, and I can sing OK but I'llbe damned if I can do both at the same time. Playing guitar and singing,NO problem

Singing bassists…the jokes just write themselves, but I don’t want to be mean spirited. Because this guy…

…shit, that guy would love a mean spirited joke about bass players. Why would anybody want to hear somebody who can’t play an instrument and hold a pick at the same time try to play and hold a tune?

I did in my teen years, though I could only sing early Metallica songs well.

I think their are quite a few with what's been misted as the tip of the iceberg. Then there are the folks that sing/sang tons without being the lead, like Chris Squier.

The two skills really compliment each other. Vocals obviously are how the melody is stated and the bass is the bridge between rhythm and harmony. So the vocals can help the bassist work more effectively with the melody and the bass can help keep the vocals tight from a rhythmic perspective.

I wish I'd gotten the bass bug early on and I wish I could sing worth a damn, regardless of whether I could do it while playing another instrument on a decent level.

DUg Pinnick - King's X

Hansi Kursch - Blind Guardian Not many know that Hansi sang and played bass up until the Imaginations From The Other Side album (Blind Guardian's 5th album).

actually Bryan Adams IS a bassist first and a guitarist second.
in his current stripped down version of the band he plays bass almost exclusively.
