This is almost certainly a question for Live Ruckus.
Yes, we could really use the D-man's peculiar take on squirrel biology.

When I lived in New Hampshire, some of the northern types used to hunt gray squirrel. Apparently, they eat them in some type of stew. I'm not joking. They even have a defined hunting season and daily limit.

I'm a hunter, so I'm well aware of the squirrel season. I have no desire to eat squirrels, tho - so I don't shoot any.
Rabbits are magically delicious, however.
Rabbits hibernate, right? It makes sense - it's probably all of that west and wewaxation that makes them so tender and dewicious.

How about cows. Shouldn't they be hibernating?

If the cows hibernated, who would make STEAK?
Squirrels are still in season so i'm still out and about for them on weekends. They seem to be everywhere right now.
Rabbits are also still in season but I don't have a dog and i don't feel like pretending I am one in this cold weather. Therefore I don't persue them this time of year.
Squirrels lose over 60% of the nuts they hide. Somebody actually studied that.
Maybe squirrels were evolving agriculture. They didn't lose nuts, they planted nut trees.
Those little bastards are clever.
