Is this really Neccassary?

While I agree that signature models are by definition, unnecessary... It's a bass. It's a single pick up bass that does one thing and one thing only. It's not like some 3 pick up, 5 switch having locking tremolo wearing beasty guitar...

The world needs more Jaco-signature fretless Jazz basses.

It is necessary to Fender and Mr Waters bottom lines.......apparently....

I know plenty of once wealthy musicians who pissed it all away and are now broke, but I find it nearly impossible to think that messieurs Waters and friends need the dough.

...I would have rather seen Fender make a sig Roger Waters bass based on the sunburst P-Bass he used in the late 60's early 70's (like in Live At Pompei)...naturally, it should come with flats...

Yes, so frequently people who have money stop and say "OK, I'm done."

While I don't see anything really special about the bass,

I don't see why Roger Waters SHOULDN'T have a signature bass.

I mean, he was an influential bass player on rock music.

Bottom line, they'll give anyone a signature instrument if they think it will sell units.

If rich people only kept the money they needed they wouldn't be rich.
