Robin Williams "Beard" Movies

How about One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest? Then you can end the class by throwing your desk through the window and escaping into the parking lot.

Actually, the depiction of mental illness and its treatment in film would be an interesting topic for class discussion. You could go back and cover films like The Snake Pit (1948), Bigger Than Life (1956) or even The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920).

Actually, someone in my last class brought up Cuckoo's Nest. I must confess I have never seen it. I'll try renting it first. The movies I chose I already have discussion points for. I'm lazy like that.

you are a psychologist and never seen Cuckoo's Nest? That is just wrong.

First banjos.... and now hating on MOVIES?!?!.... :annoyed:

You're on very thin ice with me, Blanchard.

Actually, it isn't a matter of hating on movies. I just can't get into them personally. I get restless and bored. Ironically, I could read for that same amount of time and not notice it. I'm just not a visual person; I'd rather create my own visuals in my head.

Must be a throwback to the 60's. :hippie:

We just figured you were spooked by those new-fangled "talkies" and stopped going to the movies after Fatty Arbuckle died.

and this:

made me actually crack up.
no pun intended.

Gary, I cannot recommend strongly enough that you see Cuckoo's Nest.
great film.
and the book ain't too shabby either

"The Dream Team"

So you're saying that Michael Keaton is the pork to Robbin Williams' chicken?

I'm not a big What About Bob fan, but Groundhog Day hooks me every time. That and Bill Murray's other rodent movie, Caddyshack.

I noticed that, up until recent years, every time Robin Williams took on a more serious role, he had a beard. Maybe he noticed it too and decided he needed to break the pattern.

Right about the time he stopped doing that, Bill Murray put on his beard face... coincidence?

I seriously lol'd

The Dream Team is on a very select list (along with the Blues Brothers, Back to the Future and Lebowski) that I have to sit and watch if it's ever on TV. Love it.

I'm quite curious what your talking points on it are Gary...

That movie is more for fun, though it points out that people are often capable of more than we allow them to do; the biggest limitations are those that we "professionals" put on people. After five weeks of four 3-hour classes and a final exam, that is a good way to spend that last class.

"...but now it's just another show, you leave them laughing as they go..."

By the way, Gary, I've been to a movie theater once since 1983, and that was 1997... I will watch movies at home a few times a month, but if I lose interest, I just turn it off... I prefer listening to music any day, or watching DVDs of live music...

The last movie I saw in the theater before I had kids, was American Pie. I hadn't been back until my kids had to see Tangled a few months ago. I think the only time I will ever go to the theater is with them. I agree with you, I would rather listen to music or watch DVDs of live music. I also enjoy documentaries of bands or musicians. I just watched the Pearl Jam documentary the other night. I really liked it.

Tangled was pretty funny

wish I'd seen the end though

Well now the kids have it on DVD so I get to see it over and over again. I don't want to ruin the end for you, but they all lived happily ever after.

I actually own it too, but I always fall asleep before the end.
I do that with most flicks.
which is why I've been watching this guitar flick in bits'n'pieces.
