Remember the "ist" era of HC?

The Law of Man, achievement guitarists, the Malmsteen vs Eno thread, guns & religion, "if-you-can-play-jazz-you-can-play-anything" etc., etc.. In comparison MWGL is an echo chamber of niceness. We're the geldings on Old MacDonald's farm; we rarely throw down a glove, and even at TPTF no one can really be bothered picking one up.

I guess HC happened at a time when teh interwebz had just really become mainstream; we were naïve, temperamental and argumentative. Folks had a hard time handling anonymity, much like the nouveau riche upstarter sitting there in his newly acquired supercar, wondering if that pedal really means business and then smashing the thing into Burger King only minutes after leaving the dealer.

have you looked around recently on social media? Nothing had changed; in fact, i think things have gotten worse

No mention yet of Wulfman Jax and his epic fingerless gloves?

I ended up at Harmony Central way back when looking for chords and tabs in the late 90's, mostly a lurker as on most forums  After getting temp banned in the great MAPS war I don't think I went back much. Like others I visited Bucky's place for a bit then ended up here. Then kids and work and school and life and now a decade later I'm finally starting to come back online a bit.

If you’re going for the Great Depression & Railways look, then fingerless gloves are ace. Same if you’re a sketchy Dickens character.

Fingerless gloves do not go with T-shirts, shorts, and/or flip-flops.

It’s been one of those unfortunate side-effects of Lord of the Rings and Dungeons & Dragons.

Short lived? There was years of so-called “hate forums” in various incarnations. Hump was there and Matt Sideburns at one point. Feep occasionally. And long lost pals like Xpressway to Yr Skull, Bosephus, TheFloydian, Gary G (whose handle I’ve forgotten), Johnny Ess, etc. I think some IRL unpleasantness with one dude finally put a stake through the heart. Not that disinterest wasn’t draining enthusiasm.
Wait I mean the forum site Brocktoon started….are we talking about the same thing? It was at the time Bucky place was running and I believe this forum was going to….I recall maybe 25 or 30 members but perhaps about 10 or so regulars

Phunky Phred was a jovial fella.

I imagine that he got lost in a time warp and ended up fighting in the Vietnam War. Someone should check to see if he’s on the memorial wall.
Phunkyphredv3 popped in here about three or 4 years ago and posted for a couple weeks. He had moved to Portland OR and had some sales job or something where he had to commute from coast to coast like once a month

I joined HC back in 2002 and jumped ship to here when Mark started it up. Every now and then I poke my head in to survey the damage. No one has posted in the moderator subforum in over a year.

He inspired me to read Mozarts letters to his father on a regular basis. He was a good kid.

I was a New Year's Eve party a couple of years back and got talking to a guy who'd done a master's degree in, I'm not sure what to call it, but 'historically informed musical performance', or something like that? So not just playing like a classical ensemble would today, but how the music would have been played back around the time it was composed.

So he's telling me about this, and I finally found my opportunity for GJ to be useful in real life:

'Have you read Mozart's letters to his father? They're AMAZING'

Poor fucker thought he'd met a kindred spirit. :embarrassed:

There was also a [Korean girl] at the party, but I didn't go so far as to try and rope her into the conversation.

Absolutely brilliant!
