At one point Neil talks to JM about Digital versus Analog:

JM: How did digital get over if it sucks so bad?
NY: Promotion. Nobody realized digital wasn't as good-because it wasn't an obvious problem. It was more obvious after you listended a while. The first time, "Hey - no hiss, wow great!" You didn't realize there was no sound until a little while later.

JM: I notice I can't listen to as much music on CD.
NY: Right. It hurts. Did you ever go in a shower and turn it on and have it come out tiny little ice cubes? Thats the difference between CD's and the real thing - water and ice. It's like gettin' hit with somethin' instead of havin' it flow over ya. It's almost taking music and making a weapon out of it - do physical damage to people without touching them. If you wanted to make a weapon that would destroy people, digital can do it OK?
 
I order CD's from Amazon, new and used, all the time. People want something tangible, and album artwork will be a major loss if all music is downloaded. I agree it's very difficult to find CD stores near where I live, in fact only one I can think of. I guess the only option is to go along with the times, and except the inevitable termination of compact discs.idn_smilie

The trick is having or finding an amp with a phongraph input. Turntables aren't line level. My old amp crapped out but I like my turntable. I need a way of converting the signal to line level or find an amp that still has a phonograph input.

I think my amp is old enough I don't have to worry about that...it's from the early 1990's. I hadn't thought of that, though.

You can buy little phono preamps that take care of this.

Re: the OP: smells like bullshit. Nowhere is this "report" cited or printed that I could see.

I think Ive lost 90% of all of the CDs Ive ever owned. I have never lost a mp3.

I can't post a link for you if you want to lose all your mp3s. :wink:

All it takes is a dead hard drive, which working in IT you see everyday. As long as you are diligent in backing up your data, but most folks aren't.

MIne are all on the cloud so I should be fine. The Mac backs up like every couple of hours.
