I wonder how much they help? I played my Callaham quipped strat last night at my neighbors. We jammed for about an hour and a half, and his son and I kept doing VH style drops (my neighbor is the biggest VH fan in the world) and it held tune all night. His guitar was out of tune every other bomb, but I checked mine every once and a while and it was still in tune.

Much of it depends on your setup.... does the plate return to a slightly less than horizontal angle from the body, or even rest against the body? The main issue with most smooth screw trems is if the bridge plate shifts around. I had one that sat pretty close to horizontal and I could push down on the bridge and when the plate no longer had contact with the underside of the screw heads, it would go out of tune.

I guess mine is setup right, which is totally accidental because I set it up and I barely know what I am doing
