Played my first round of golf today

Hitting a great tee shot is like pulling off a great solo. Enjoy it, because it may be a while before it happens again.
You get cocky, over confident, or worse yet, nervous and it all goes to shit real fast. Like everything worth doing, you have to practice it until you can't screw it up.
hitting ANY club for a GOOD shot consistently is very hard. so many things can go wrong.

Me and a mate went to the range to hit some balls.

I was doing pretty good and feeling like my swing was knitting together, until the head of my driver took off after a particularly energetic shot.

It's my neighbours and he's on holiday so I'm hopeful they'll find it while sweeping the balls up tomorrow. :embarrassed:

Found out there's a PGA coach who does lessons from a repurposed church around the corner so I've booked a set of 10 lessons.

With God on my side I can't go wrong.
have you ever heard the story about Lee Trevino on the Johnny Carson show, like back in the late 70's or early 80's?
where he's talking about (then) recently being struck by lighning on the golf course?

IIRC, Lee Trevino was asked why he used a two-iron and said: "Because even God can't hit a two-iron!"

Been doing the driving range on and off for a few years. My neighbour took me round our local course of which he's a member this morning.

Little 9 holer.

I'm a pretty laid back dude 99% of the time but f**k me I understand how people get mad playing this game.

Hit a few great shots, a bunch of stinkers and lost 2 balls but it was good fun. We weren't keeping score it was just for a bit of fun but I managed to beat him on a hole and draw a few.

Congratulations. You're officially old

no, it was when Johnny said (paraphrasing) "i guess next time a storm comes up, you'll head for cover, huh?"
to which Lee replied "no....i'm going take out my one iron and hold it up......because even god can't hit a one iron"

I took a Natural Golf course when I was a teen and enjoyed it but never played one round. Went to the range off and on and just never took to it. Fast forward to my 20's (late) and some friends invited me to play. I went with them with no hope of having fun but would you believe I had the best round of my life?!?!?! I shot an 89!!!!!!!!

On the front 9. :annoyed:

i pretty regularly shoot in the upper 40's/low 50's on 9 holes. but i made some adjustments at the range last weekend and so i can't wait to get on the course to see if the adjustments work there also. often times what happens on the range does not carry over to an actual course/game. we shall see.
if they do carry over, i should cut 4 or 5+ strokes from each 9 holes, which could put me in the mid to low 40's, and i'd be pretty happy with that.
shooting low to mid 80's for 18 would be pretty decent, for me.

Had my first lesson earlier.

Hit better balls on the big fancy machine than I've managed to hit for weeks

Really enjoyed it though. My grip was horrible and he pointed out a few other things to change up.

Doing 9 holes again tomorrow. Really interested in seeing how I get on with this new grip.

Next step: become a freemason!
