That old Skyline is da bidness!

Love that 914. An unfortunately large number of them were left to rust and return to the earth since they were so underappreciated. Now they're hard to find in any kind of worthwhile condition. But... it seems like they are having a resurgence in popularity lately and I've seen a few really nice examples including one that's been fully converted to an electric car! I did some research and it seems to be a popular trend with full conversion kits available.

Back when I had my 930S, my mom's Doctor had a garage queen 914-6 that he refused to part with but rarely drove. I went for a ride in it with him, and SWEET GEBUS!! That little thing was like a rocket powered slot car. If Porsche had given all 914s that engine, it would have been that era's Cayman S... a 911 killer at half the cost.

I also remember the old Bill Yates Porsche Dealership in San Juan Capistrano having an actual 916 on display in their showroom for a while on a cordoned off turntable. Uber rare!

I've come so close to buying an Esprit Turbo on the cheap a few times. Such a beautiful hunk of flaming shit that car is! :)

But, I always fell back on some very wise words from my youth:

Don't stick it in the crazy.

Thus, I was saved.

A buddy of mine owned an '86 Turbo for a few years. These photos are probably the best representation of that ownership period.

Dude's a straight-up masochist. About a year after he unloaded the Esprit he bought an Elan 2+2. He's still sorting it out.

Oh my.

He needs counseling.

Not quite as bad as my buddy who's been duct tape and chicken wire patching up a decades overdue for the scrap heap Renault Dauphine. Talk about a glutton for punishment?

I don't remember the last time he drove that car more than a mile from home that didn't see it return on a hook.

I'll see if I have some pics somewhere.

I love Lotuses. Anybody who has one cluttering up their garage can call me and I'll be willing to take it off their hands and free up the garage space and I won't even charge them.
