P-90s....a well kept secret in the guitar world!

Multimeh
Okay, so I've owned my Epi '56 Goldtop for about 6 weeks now. I bought it with the intention to turn it into more of a "Deluxe" LP by swapping the pups for a set of mini-humbuckers. However, once I got this guitar, I just have not been able to convince myself to change anything on it! I know that there are a few out there that have been playing P-90 equipped guitars for a while, but honestly...they things are a well kept secret! Smooth, single coil sound and response with the warmth and fullness of a humbucker. I've always been a big Fender fan, so I'm obviously drawn to single-coil sound, but I sure do love the sound of this guitar!

Any other P-90 lovers out there?

I'm a fan although I don't play this guitar out much at the moment:

I've got a 60s Tribute LP Studio, and I swapped out the P90s for minibuckers. That lasted all of about a week before I switched them back. :thu:

Used to own an old 1951 ES125.
Amazing pickup in it.
Huge variety of sounds with just pick attack, before you even touch the vol or tone knob.
One of these days I'll get another P90 git.
Which modern P90 is closest to an old dog ear Gibson form the 50s?

My main guitar is a P90 equipped LP Junior. Before that it was a 60's tribute LP with P90s. Can't beat them for what I do.

i have about 15 electrics and no P-90s!! Need to rectify that situation soon.

I just came across this video and LOVE the tones this guy is getting:

and if you're interested, you can hear me playing to that very same backing track with a 100% stock Squier Bullet

from my experiencemost p90's sound real good. I really can't hear much of a difference between the gibson and seymour duncans. I think a p90 can make any chunk of wood sound good. Here is a video last friday with me playing my dan dunham tele through my funky tweed clone. I like how I can play at any volume and I can get a good tone. For me that was always the go to pickup no secret in the blues world.

Am a HUGE fan of P-90's (the Hi-Gains in my Ric 620 notwithstanding, Ellen). Took me FAR too long to finally get round to trying them, but now have been playing P-90 guitars for the last dozen years or so.

Have gigged ALL my P-90 guitars in the last 6 months or so.

One of my favorite guitars is my 1998 Epi LP Junior, bought used for under 50 bucks about five years ago. This thing makes me smile every time I plug it in and make it roar. It's without a doubt the best bang for the buck guitar I have.

It's a shame they don't make 'em with P-90s anymore, because these are serious asskickers.
