That turned out to be... not so great

Mine:

Greta van Fleet

To be fair, they seem to be a solid band with talented musicians, but cmon... do we really need another Led Zeppelin? I can deal with the music being a ‘tribute’ to LZ, but the whole image just reeks of ‘manufactured. And the singer is just plain annoying.

I can listen to them, but hardly ‘the saviours of rocknroll’

Greta's 15 minutes of fame were over like a year ago. Critics basically shrugged. And then we flushed them down the toilet like their predecessors of 70s rock LARPing Wolf Mother.

AllMusic summed it up perfectly:

"For the band and audience alike, Greta Van Fleet is nothing more than cosplay of the highest order."

Beyoncé is a good example :thu:

You can add Drake and Arianna Grande into that list too.

As for guitar bands:

Led Zep
The Who
Van Halen

GRETA VAN FLEET IS BRINGING ROCK BACK

BY JOSH BELL
SEPTEMBER 20, 2019
If you take a look at the current Billboard singles charts, you might get the impression that rock music is out of style. Dance-oriented pop, hip-hop and R&B may dominate mainstream charts, radio airplay and streaming services, but rock music is still thriving if you know where to find it. One of the biggest music success stories of the last few years is Michigan hard rock band Greta Van Fleet, which broke out with single “Highway Tune” in 2017 and has since racked up a string of rock-radio hits, including “When the Curtain Falls” and “Black Smoke Rising.”

At a time when even supposed rock bands rely heavily on synthesizers and prefabricated beats, GVF is unabashedly old school in its dedication to guitar, bass and drums, with a sound that recalls bands like Led Zeppelin and The Who. Singer Josh Kiszka is often compared to Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant thanks to his piercing wail, and the effect is that GVF sounds nothing like current pop music, even while winning Grammys, making TV appearances and topping various charts. If rock is dead, then the members of GVF are doing everything they can to bring it back to life.

I noticed long ago that the media will over-hype an artist, treat them like the Second Coming, then begin to tear them down. Examples of this include Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, and David Byrne. First they were the greatest thing to happen to music ever, then the media would tell us how they couldn't live up to the hype and they were finished.

Ok motherfucker how bout this

THE BEATLES

huh huh...yeah I thought so.

Mia Wallace: there are only two kinds of people in the world, Beatles people and Elvis people. Now Beatles people can like Elvis and Elvis people can like the Beatles, but nobody likes them both equally. Somewhere you have to make a choice. And that choice, tells you who you are.

Elvis person here. :)
