@jelloman , oh, and one other observation that is unfortunate. Though there are a lot of "libtards" I have talked to who are willing to give Trump and chance and see what happens, and no one is breaking windows or rioting over matters, we, as early as Wednesay, have had a different problem. To my shame.

In my community, which I have felt is generally tolerant despite an overall lack of diversity, school children, who were born here, and are clearly citizens, have been taunted and told they have to go "home." Where that is, when they were born here, is an interesting question. These kids have been asking teachers where can they hide? Is Trump coming right away to take their Dads or Moms away?

The extremely rich Peruvian and Mexican, Brazilian and Columbian and Ecuadorian cultures and people that are present in our communities and serve as some of our better restaurant owners and construction project foreman, and sheep herders, and ranch workers, and resort workers, are at risk. Some of these working class people support large families, that include citizens. Who is to support them if the primary bread winners are taken away?

Hard questions.

Just something to think about: your neighbors probably didn't jump on amazon and get next day shipping on their racist accessories Tuesday night.....they've had that shit all along & this current climate has inspired them to let their freak flag fly, literally. As people continue to stand up against racism and intolerance, they will go back to suppressing their shenanigans in public.
The key question is how do we work to help change those attitudes for the better rather than be ok with it existing under the surface?
I never was ok with that. I have been hoping that our little island out here would continue to expand, as economic stability (not prosperity yet) started to return to the area after the crash. And that with changing numbers, and more people come and work for better attitudes, (we have strong LGBT group in the high school, there is a trans-gender bathroom policy that is very controversial but it is there, etc.) hopefully that can build, and that over time, old attitudes could adjust as people get used to each other. Unfortunately, as I just posted a minute ago, we have taken some steps back and things have gotten harder again. But I am glad to say I know a lot of people in the area who are willing to roll up their sleeves and keep working.

What do you mean by backpedaling?
He hasn't even been president elect for a full week yet much less the actual president.
Did you not read the posts prior to that one? go back and look. there are links to changed positions on the ACA (Obamacare), and several other areas. One link speaks to five specific areas. I frankly welcome the "waffles". Others may not.

I'm also not sure why the right hates the left? Are they mad at the left for giving them healthcare? Or lowering unemployment? Making the stock market rise? Is it really as simple as the left is ok with gays and Muslims? And the left is OK with a 43 year old supreme court decision? I'm seriously asking.

That's a complex question with a lot of facets, but the biggest one is this: thirty-plus years of unchecked and increasingly unbalanced conservative propaganda. A whole stratum of "information sources" that routinely promote falsehoods as facts in service of a rightwing ideological agenda, and by constant repetition reinforce each other's lies, lending the illusion of truth to the provably untrue.

@jelloman , some reasons for the things I said that sounded survivalist:

I live in a community known for its "left" views in the middle of one of the most "red" areas in the county. Our community is viewed as a variety of things by the other citizens of the state, rich, spoiled, lawless, Godless, etc. (BTW, I, and most that I know, are not rich, and are struggling working and middle classers who continue to feel the pinch, despite economic recovery in other areas of the country.) Most of these people have guns. I see people come driving up from the lowlands to where I live, coming out to the trails that I hike and bike to go shoot meat for the winter. Generally friendly enough, and I always attempt to be friendly and talk to people. though a minority are not, and a minority like to violate backcountry travel restrictions and drive their four wheelers in over single track trails, where no motorized is allowed.

There are people both in and out of our community that now fly Nazi and Confederate symbols.

I do not see Trump making their, and our, financial security any better. I hope I am wrong but I don't think so.

I, anecdotally, am witnessing what feels like pretty drastic climate change. There is no snow when there should be. There is no cold when there should be. The forests in my state burn every year now. Not a fire every few years. The trees are dying in droves. Everything is dry, dry, dry. Water has always been an issue in the intermountain west. This does not look to improve under what I am observing. This anecdotal evidence corresponds with the science that the climate is changing. We, IMO, were not addressing it fast enough before, and it appears we will go backwards now. The working poor that inhabit my state will end up suffering as water dries up, agriculture starts to struggle, and people simply do not have enough. (that reminds me, might need to have my well checked for depth. Seems fine now, but doesn't hurt to have it checked). This is what had me riled up the most yesterday.

I am concerned about health care for the people of this state. Idaho did not enroll in the medicaid eligibility expansion. A lot of people were left in the gap. Now, all bets are off. I did a lot of bankruptcy work a few years ago, as part of the recession, and a lot were driven by health expenses. I would not be surprised to see that return. Mr. Trump seems now to want to keep some aspects of the ACA, but this gap has not been addressed, and the exchange in Idaho does not have many options. Ryan apparently wants to privatize medicare. I do not trust insurance companies and the market to fix this situation. So, more financial stress could be in store. IMO, the way to correct the situation is to go all the way with universal health care, as the market does not work in this area. We are apparently going to try a different path that doesn't look too realistic to me.

If and when the financial stress gets bad enough and resources (water, food) start to run out, conflict may result. Conflict between people in this country seem as amped up as I have ever seen them. And my county represents those lazy bastard hippy elites to a lot of the rest of the people in this state. Things seem to me to be getting worse, not better. We do not have many racial minorities here in terms of blacks, asians or muslims, other than a pretty decent hispanic population. But those that are here, particularly LGBT people, of which there are quite a few in my county, can feel pretty intimidated by some of the other folks in the community that are not so tolerant. And as I said, we are like a little blue island in a vast sea of red. Our schools are funded better due to better tax base, there are nicer homes here, people look and act differently here, and by some we Godless mountain heathen are resented. So, I better get prepared.

Maybe this will not come to pass. The president elect has already waffled on some things. Maybe the market will prefer this way. But even if that is the case, I am not confident the rewards will be evenly distributed. I believe the people of Idaho will get left out, and will feel sold out by the president elect, as he is already "waffling." We shall see.
I'm telling you, this is word for word exactly what the right wing nut job preppers have been saying...they are as equally convinced that it is the LEFT that is going to do all of the things you are fearing...

Listen, I'm not talking out my ass here, I KNOW these people...I am one, to a lesser degree...

I belong to a prepper/survivalist forum...for me the need to be prepared was precipitated when we started seeing wide ranging power outages in the Northeast, especially during winter and after big storms...it became obvious that the power grid and other infrastructure is incredibly vulnerable, and the're seemingly in no hurry to fix it...so I started thinking about how we (my mother was still alive) were going to weather a major grid down event...I started researching and found this site...

www.survivalistboards.com

I'm "jelloman" there too, btw...and I'm on staff there as well...

These people have been invaluable to me in establishing a plan and setting up a stock of necessary items to survive a month long event without need to resupply...that's what the vast majority of the prepping community is about...only a small (and VERY vocal) percentage of the community is prepping for TEOTWAWKI events, and they are the ones who make up the "right wing nut job" prepper community that gets talked about by the media...and they do most of the posting and make most of the noise on that site...

Take some time and read what they say about why they do what they do...you will find virtually every word of your post echoed in their words...

Anecdotally, one of the releases from the FBI archive included information on Nikola Tesla. One of the guys on Reddit said it best with what he found in the archive: Uuh guys? I don't wanna spook you, but according to the FBI archives in Nikola Tesla that were released yesterday, well... NIKOLA TESLA WANTED TO BUILD A FUCKING ENERGY WALL AROUND THE UNITED STATES!!!!

Cracks me up still.

Yeah, that is unfortunate, and I certainly don't condone or support it in any way...I don't deny that Trump has done much to empower the racist/xenophobic/misogynist groups, and I'm hoping against hope that he comes out and condemns it at some time...his inaugural would be a good place to start...

Please remember that I have never once uttered one word of support for a Trump presidency...I have, and continue to contend, that we the voters were not given any choice at all in this election, and we the American poeple, were fucked either way...I stand by that...

EDIT: Maybe, though, I should come clean and admit to seeing that we are definitely MORE fucked with Trump than we would have been with Clinton...

No need to repeat that you are not a Trump supporter. I know

Seriously...When is the protesting shit going to stop?
I'm sure that there's always some people that live on the edge of breaking out on to the street in hopes that other will follow because, well, that's their nature and they really have nothing better to do.

When do you shut your pie hole, pack things in, and be a normal person?..LOL...I was going to say a normal person 'again'..

The chips are going to fall where the chips fall...

Those people should be rounded up and deported to.......NOOOOOOOOOO...Not Canada.....Fuck that shit....I take back all I said..

It's all cool\good...Chill\relax....Phew....

They'll stop protesting when Soros gets thrown in prison and is prevented funding these people.

So yes, I did miss it but i just went back and read it.
Honestly, I don't see what the fuss is. The fact that he is willing to entertain "alternative" ideas shows that he isn't the "dictator" people seem to be making him out to be.
As far as the Mexican wall thing...anybody with half a brain Knew that was never gonna happen.
I really feel like everybody is completely over-reacting here.
We have a government that operates on a system of checks and balances. No one person is going to singlehandedly ruin the country. Every president In history has had some great policies and some terrible ones. Trump will be no different.
Life will go on as it always has.

If memory serves when Obama came out with his Obamacare package people were pretty pissed off about that. Now all of the sudden Trump says he wants to repeal it and it the best thing since sliced bread?!?!

So I better do it myself. That could include building a dang bomb shelter, and stocking it with food. And for the first time, I am considering buying guns and becoming proficient in their use. Also, setting up solar power to run our well pump, and other primary needs.
There's nothing wrong, IMO, with being prepared for natural and man made disasters. The bomb shelter might be overkill (do you have a basement already?), but having enough food and water (or a means to get it from your well) for an extended power outage, or supply (food/water) outage is prudent, IMO. I also include in that the ability to communicate (radios) and yes, defend yourself (guns and ammo). The benefit of having guns and ammo also means that you'll be able to provide food if necessary. Do be safe if you plan to go that direction.

What do you mean by backpedaling?
He hasn't even been president elect for a full week yet much less the actual president.

He campaigned on building a wall, now he says maybe no wall. He said his first act would be to repeal Obamacare now he says he'll probably just amend it. That is back pedaling. Making a promise during your campaign and then going back on it once elected.
